MANILA, Philippines - Prices of pan de sal, the rounded bread often eaten by Filipinos during breakfast, is expected to go up after flour millers announced that they would increase prices of flour next week.
In a text message to reporters on Saturday, Simplicio Umali Jr, president of Philippine Baking Industry Group (PhilBaking), said flour millers had decided to increase the prices of flour by 4 to 6 percent or P30 to P40 per bag, which would be effective next week.
He said the flour increase would result in the rise of pan de sal prices by P1.50 per bag of 12 pieces.
Umali, also president of Gardenia, said PhilBaking on Friday filed a petition at the Department of Trade and Industry to restrain flour millers from increasing flour prices this month because the increase was contrary to the declining prices of wheat in the world market.
PhilBaking members will hold a press conference dubbed "Balitaan sa Tinapayan" on Dapitan St., in Manila on Sunday, 11 a.m., to discuss the issue. - GMANews.TV

Oh no the price of the famous pandesal would go up! Now before you eat breakfast you have to find more money to eat the same amount of bread as usual. But I heard that someone here in the Philippines created pandesal made from vegetables but still has the same taste and the original price of the sme old pandesal.
How sad... Even pan de sals are expensive today! Filipinos might find their alternative bread for breakfast from now on to save money.
even the simple things in life aren't that cheap anymore..this is a clear effect of poverty and corruption..
oh my even pandesal is going to be more expensive...this should open the eyes of every filipino, especially the government to change!
Prices of every necessity is going up. What will happen next? If the increase in price of goods won't stop then what will be left for us to use? Pandesal used to be a cheap good for every Filipino and that a supply of this good can make them last for the day. But if the price of pandesal shall go up once again then a lot Filipinos wil have to turn to other alternatives, where some would prefer, not eating. Poverty, hunger, what next? Death?

dati-rati, pandesal ang pumupuno sa kalam ng mga Pilipino..pero sa pagdaan ng panahon, kung hindi ito nagmamahal ay lumiliit naman ito..nagiging sanhi din ito ng kagutuman sa panahon ngayon..abot kaya lang dati ang pandesal kaya may nakakain pa kahit papaano ang mga mahihirap lalo na ang mga salat..ngunit sa pagtaas ng presyo nito, hindi makayanan ng iba kaya hindi na sila makabili..dapat mag-isip ng solusyon ang gobyerno..mga alternatibo ba..
All of the prices of food have increase because of oil. Diesel prices have gone up also leading to the increase of transportation expense of the companies. It's really disturbing that all of the goods of our country is starting to be expensive. Filipino's have the habbit of eating their favorite food in the morning which is pndaesal and coffee. I believe that this is the cheapest food to eat in the morning and also a delicious one and poeple are taking that out also. Also the prices of rice! Filipinos are rice eaters and it is in our culture that we eat rice for lunch and dinner. In America, they only eat sandwiches, burger. In italy, pastas and pizzas. Even our KFC offers rice to us because it is our culture to eat rice. I believe that the KFC of the Philippines is the only one who serves rice. Go to Singapore, China, Hong Kong, they serve chicken with bread. It's sad that these culture of ours is starting to change. Imagine Filipinos not eating pandesal in the morning and eating burgers for lunch, it is not Filipino-like.
Pandesal db ito yung pagkain ng mahirap? pati ba ito tumataas na rin yung presoyo. Sa hirap ng buhay lahat na lang tumataas.
Hayy.. lahat na lang nagtataas, una yung bigas,tapos ngayon, pan de sal na rin! Sobrang "laki" na ang niliit ng ating paboritong tinapay.. Halimbawa na nga ito na patuloy ang paghihirap ng bansa natin.
