November 16, 2008, on a quiet Sunday evening, 51-year old Jose Fernando's gold bracelet was snatched from him. This occurrence happened as he was waiting for his ride home at the corner of Padre Faura Street and Taft Avenue in Ermita. As narrated, it took place while the man was standing and as a motorcycle passed him, the cyclist allegedly snatched his bracelet. The bracelet was reported to be an Italian gold bracelet worth approximately PHP5000.
While these events are not a surprise to these infamous streets of Manila, it is indeed shocking to learn that this crime was done by Raymond Antonio. He is a 23-year old student who was a a few months away from earning a degree in criminology from the Philippine College of Criminology and becoming a policeman.
The facts were these: While waiting for a ride home, a motorcycle passed Jose Fernando and the rider snatched his bracelet from him. By doing this, the rider, Raymond Antonio, lost his balance causing him to lose control of the motorcycle and eventually sliding on the pavement. As the authorities investigated the motorcycle used, they found an MPD sticker stuck infront of the vehicle. When asked to explain the sticker, Raymond Antonio was unable to present a license and claimed that he simply borrowed the motorcycle from a Francisco Lamparas.
Ironic as this situation is, it just goes to show that desperate times actually do call for desperate measures. We realize just how much people are willing to risk for a few thousand pesos. So in conclusion, a criminology student a few months away from graduating and landing a respectable job turned into a prisoner because of robbery. In a span of a few seconds, his actions changed the course of his life. Had he waited for just a few months more, he could have been getting paid already and not risk his life just for a bracelet.

aside from this story, i want to know level of the Philippines's public security because i heard story that robbery of taxi, padicap and jeepney so on. i dont know why this kind of happen keep on generate to our society. but i am sure that Goverment should bring alternative policy or plan, such as enforcement of police system. it is unfair, if people live with feeling of uneasiness.
This story is so sad, the student probably needed money to be able to graduate, or he really needs money for other purposes.
The story is so ironic, a student who was studying criminology, actually got arrested for doing crime.
The government should do something about the increased youth crimes going around the country. Most of the young criminals only do crime because of desperate need. They are in need of help, the government should create programs/workshops for the youth so that they would not feel alone and they would know the right thing to do.
This is a terrifying story because most victims of these criminals are helpless students. Students are mostly the target of these snatchers because they know that these students have gadgets and money with them. The government should add more patrols to at least monitor the streets in Manila and other cities especially places where there are nearby schools.
It is really an ironic situation. But as a criminology student, they sure have the knowledge on how the crime goes. Even if this could be a "kapit sa patalim" kind of situation, what assurance that he wont continue his illegal acts once he becomes an enforcer of the law. We don't need more "dirty" cops roaming our streets. When there's a will there's a way. "Lahat ng problema nasosolusyonan."
I cannot believe how bad the situation our country is in right now. I mean to think that a student would steal, a criminology student no less. Is the situation that bad that people must stoop to this level. This just goes to show you that despite GMA's proud proclamation of rising GDPs, the poor are still getting poorer and rich are getting richer.
it is already the middle of the "ber" months now that's why the crime rate are fast increasing, many people now are committing crime just to have the money to celebrate x-mas
