A man was caught in the act of diposing off a fetus at the center island of C.M. Recto Avenue in Binondo , Manila.
Meisic police station chief Superintendent Nelson Yabut said Mario Baasis 45, told police he was hired to dispose off fetuses by an old "hilot" or traditional midwife, whom he identified as Milagros Capistrano, for P300 per fetus. He said he had observed a number of women coming to Capistrano's house on Asuncion street in Binondo Manila.
Police arrested Capistrano and her alleged assistant, Imelda Ramos. The lawmen failed to find any abortion equipment at Capistrano's house. She said women came to her after drinking abortifacients brought from herbal vendors in Quiapo and it was she who massaged the women's bellies to facilitate the abortion of the fetus.
She admitted hiring Baasis to dump the six-month-old fetus of her latest patient. "I am only helping deliver the dead fetus of the mother. In fact my latest patient had her fetus already coming out when she came to me."
She said she was paid P700 - P1,000 by each patient. Yabut believes Capistrano's illegal operation was behind the fetuses discovered in various areas of Manila. By Nestor Etolle, The Philippine Star
I feel very disappointed because there are still a lot of people who are involved in this kind of illegal operation. Yet, I'm glad that at least some of these unscrupulous people are being arrested and facing charges. I hope that all of these abortionists are arrested and a more strict law on abortion will be imposed so that there will be no more acts of abortions because no one will conduct any abortion operations anymore.

It is sad to hear that there are a lots of situations like this and they are still operational. You can't deny the fact that there are still people going to places like this. I think the government should tighten up and focus more on tracing more businesses like this. Yes they gain money, but the way they gain money is illegal and unethical. Just imagine how many young lives they take in a normal successful day.
Abortion has been very rampant especially to teenagers who are sexually active and not yet ready to bear a child. Maybe, the root cause of this kind of illegal practice is poverty. If we'll look at it in every angle, its clear that they are doing this for money. For the pregnant woman, maybe she has reasons for doing it, but its possible that she can't provide for the baby yet, that's why she was forced to do it. Well, for the traditional midwife and the one who delivers the dead fetus, its obvious that they want to earn easy money. Practically they'll really be earning more here than working regularly with minimum/ below minimum wage.
For them, I just suggest that they should just find a decent job to earn a living rather than kill innocent babies. Besides, its also a sin to do this. I hope that they would be bothered by their consciences.
Abortion, as we all know, is an immoral act. It is hard to believe that in a country dominated by Christians, we treat abortion like it's meaningless. I hope this immoral behavior will soon be erased in our country.
In addition, the government is doing a great job tracking down this illegal operations.
There are a lot of factors why people chose abortion as an option. Maybe they are still teenagers who aren't ready to bear and raise a child yet. Or maybe because of poverty that they choose not to bear this child anymore. But I think that abortion should not be the option that they should take. Maybe they could find a good family who can adopt the child or maybe they could go to an organization who can provide the needs and help them to raise the child. Or better yet find a job and just accept it, its actually the parents' faulth so why put the consequence to the unborn child. Abortion for me is something that no one should do. It's something that should always stay illegal. People who execute and practice this should be ashame of themselves, because they are actually killing someone, it serves them right to be punished.
Although I respect the decisions of those who choose to abort, I do not see the logic in taking such an action. No matter how small, it is in fact, a living thing that is taking form. I believe that people should be more aware of the consequences of their actions and they shouldn't even think of doing those deeds if they know that the are incapable of supporting the life of a child. If the woman has already been impregnated, she should consider less cruel actions. There are a lot of orphanages here in the Philippines that are willing to take children who do not have parents who are willing to take care of them.
Abortion is immoral! They must learn to fear God.
I really do not understand why these mothers choose to abort their children. I mean isn't it so cruel to take a unborn child's chance to live? maybe they have their own reasons, like not being able to feed the baby anyway, but still, they should try hard, work hard, for their baby.
and the fact that most abortions come from teen agers who are already sexually active, but are not ready to face motherhood, is really irritating. If these teens can't take the responsibility of the risk they took, why should the baby suffer? shouldn't it be them who should pay for their mistakes?
If they really can't take care of their baby, there are other options, abortion is not the only solution. They could choose to have their baby adopted by a family. I think there are many families who really wants to have a baby but can't because of infertility. I think those families would be more than happy to adopt a baby.
Abortion in our country is illegal. But we really should consider the reasons why some people still choose to go for it.
On the other hand, I think that they should still not consider abortion as an option. It's there own fault why they got pregnant and they should deal with it. And if they think that they don't have the ability or capacity to raise a child then the best option is to let someone adopt the child right?? For God's sake, abortion is considered killing. Every human or person has a right to live and we should also share this right with the baby or fetus that they are carrying inside.
