Local biscuit product found positive of melamine

On October 25 (Saturday), Hong Kong’s Centre for Food Safety (CFS) disclosed a Philippine-made biscuit product tested positive for melamine. The CFS website said Croley Foods Sunflower Crackers (Blueberry Cream Sandwich) was found to contain 3.2 parts per million (ppm) melamine. The Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) will re-test said product to confirm whether the Sun Flower Cracker is really contaminated with Melamine. BFAD has advised the public not to consume said product until the BFAD results are out. Another product made in the Philippines was found “unsatisfactory” by the CFS, this product is Select Fresh Brown Eggs (Extra Large, 6 Pieces, with Expiry Date: Oct. 25, 2008). According to the US Food and Drug Administration the tolerable daily intake of melamine is 0.63mg per kg of body weight per day, for children under 3 years old, the tolerable daily intake is 0.32mg per kg of body weight per day. The CFS also advices the public to stop consuming said products.
It is scary that even products made from the Philippines have been found positive for melamine, this just proves how wide spread China’s milk scandal have spread. I think the BFAD should start testing all food products, whether it is milk or not and whether or not it is from China.

I saw an article regarding foods that have been contaminated with melamine and one of them is Cadbury. I'm really surprised because I don't think brands from US or other countries, well except China will have melamine in their products but as you siad it turned out that way. So I guess all of us should really be more careful of what we eat.

i also heard the news regarding the local biscuit that was found positive of melamine, i was really shocked because i eat that biscuit!!! i hope that the test made was incorrect and i also hope that the producers of that biscuit step up and clear its name because it would really affect their business! even if the biscuit's name was sensored in the news, it was still very ovious because that local product is well- known and has already established it's name in the industry. let's just wait for the result of the tesing of that biscuit here in the philippines.

Let's face it, most food we eath have, to some extent, chemicals harmful to the human body. The real question here, is it ENOUGH to lethally poison a human being. This is a relative value. For some chemicals, the bigger the person then the more tolerable and to the smaller person, likewise.

The mere fact that a certain portion of our body weight is due to the millions of germs that inhabit our body shows us that we cannot completely avoid these pests.

Same thing with the chemicals. What is alarming here is the Ethics of business of these people. It is unacceptable.

Croley foods which carries that blueberry cream sandwich have cleared their name (melamine-free) and their products are back in the store shelves. This brand of biscuits is one of the most in-demand nationally and even outside the country. In fact, in our supermarket croley food's butter cream biscuit is very popular with customers. I don't think that they would blemish their good name and sell their products if it has melamine. The test in HK made them clueless since all raw materials being used in their products tested negative with melamine.

Issues like this can truly harm our economy. I was shocked that a local biscuit of the Philippines became involved in the melamine scare. Although the product is not really popular on the market, it still did irreversible effects in our economy. The final result of the test may still be on process but the idea of having our local product contained with melamine will be in the minds of the average Filipino citizen. But in my opinion, I am not affected of this melamine scare at all

I am also shocked... That the blueberry biscuit from sunflower has melamine. Even I heard that there is melamine in Nestle milk and Kitkat. I think the Chinese committed a big international mistake. I hope that the Philippines improve testing for melamine in their products. The good thing is that melamine does not really affect adults.

i don't really eat biscuits because i'm not fond of them actually. i think that people eating it should be more careful since it's their life. I can't really do anything about it, but just to be here to remind them to watch what they eat. I think that this news would not be taken for granted since this issue of Melamine is really serious. we wouldn't want our close friends or loved ones leave us for being pathetic with this issue. right? well i think we should all be more alert in terms of what we eat since we only live once and when we're gone we can't take back our life.. so we should be careful..

How could this have happened? How could these producers be that careless? What are they thinking? Is it because of profit? Whatever their answers are, they are endangering the lives of people, especially the children who are more vulnerable to this chemical. I hope they would resolve this problem soon, so that our lives will be safer and healthier.

It is bothering that even the local food are positive for melamine. a lot of people were alarmed when this melamine controversy exploded. at first I was happy because at last people will refrain from buying imported products and now cater the local products. But now, even the local food are positive. this only shows that we cannot guarantee the safety of the food via determining the place of manufacturing. now i think that we should always be conscious in what we eat.

This milk scandal has alarmed the whole world regarding China products. Another China product that was on alert a few years back was the plastic toys for babies and now it is the melamine in the milk. One time I was holding a plastic bowl and I read what was it was made of which was written below, and it was made up of melamine. This suprised me because if this was in the milk then technically we are digesting plastic into our body which can lead to kidney stones during the long run but for babies it will attact faster since they have very fragile body organs.
