Juicy Meat = Global Warming

Meat's demands nowadays are getting higher and higher, and our generation now has more meat lover rather than veggie lover. That's reason why there's a lots of livestock present these day instead of irrigation fields. But do you know that when feeding farm animals are just wasting resources
.The reason behind these are:
  • United Stated they are using 70% of their grain to feed farm animals instead of feeding it to the marginalized people and 50% of their fresh water for go to their livestock production.
  • You need 441 gallons of water to just come up with a pound of meat rather than using those water for producing wheat which only needs 14 gallons of water to produce a pound of it.
  • When we eat meat we only get less than half of the nutrients they get from eating what we feed them, so why won't we lessen eating meat and eat more veggies.
Raising farm animals also cause pollution like:
  • Manure of animals. The tens of billions of farmed animals of the world produce massive amounts of manure, which emit green house gases such as methane, nitrous oxide, and carbon dioxide.
  • Cow Burps. Ruminant animals such as cows and sheep, also emit huge quantities of methane via burping and flatulence. Methane has 23 times the global warming potential of CO2, and the livestock industry alone is responsible for 37 percent of human-induced methane emissions.
  • Deforestation. Forests are being destroyed to make room for cattle to graze or to grow crops to feed livestock. When the trees are cut down or burned, the CO2 they store escapes back into the air.
  • Synthetic Fertilizer. Growing feed for farmed animals requires intense use of synthetic fertilizers manufactured with fossil fuels. This process emits a tremendous amount of CO2, and the fertilizer releases nitrous oxide[3] – a greenhouse gas that is 296 times more potent than carbon dioxide.
  • Burning Fossil Fuels. The burning of fossil fuels releases CO2, one of the primary gases responsible for global warming. In addition to fertilizer manufacturing, the meat industry uses fossil fuels to heat the buildings that house the animals, to produce of all the crops to feed to the animals, and to transport, process, and refrigerate all of the meat. Cornell ecologist David Pimentel estimates that animal protein demands about eight times as much fossil fuel than for a comparable amount of plant protein.
In addition, raising animals for food generates more greenhouse gases than all the cars and trucks in the world combined while eating a vegan diet prevents the equivalent of 1.5 tons of CO2 emissions every year.

I'm not telling you guys that you should stop eating meat but minimize it and start to love eating veggie. Think of the bright side when you eat meat you only not try to save earth but you will also become healthier.

I agree with what the article stated. Eating more meat than vegetables also increases obesity among human beings. From what I've learned in Economics, we should use resources efficiently.

Very informative article. Personally, i long wanted to be a vegetarian, but present environment especially in the university doesn't give way to my desire. Almost no veggie food house can be found in the school vicinity. How can i turn to a vegetarian? With all the benefits vegetables give to humans, i hope the university can promote eating vegetables by setting up veggie food house inside the campus.

this article is something "new" and i agree with it. i don't really intend to be a vegetarian but i do want to minimize my meat consumption, especially pork because it's fattening. we all know that eating vagetables, and also fruits, is better than eating meat. i would want to encourage people to eat more veggies for a healthy living. even if you are not fat or even if you are physically fit, you can't say that you're healthy inside. it is still best to balance the types of food that we intake to not risk our health and avoid future health complications.

Wow, I learned a lot from this article, I never knew eating meat would cause harm to our environment. I agree with this article, personally i really love eating meat, and most of the time I can't imagine living with out it, but eating meat is not healthy for the environment and its not healthy for us either, there have been alot of studies saying that eating meat causes many diseases and one of them is cancer. I know it will be hard to stop eating meat but maybe we could all just lessen the meat we intake. Maybe once in a while we could try fish, fish is also meat but I think it causes less damage to nature and it is way healthier than pork, beef or chicken.

I grew up eating more meat than veggies. Before, my mom used to remove the vegetables from my dish it’s only recently that I learned how to eat vegetables. It’s sad to learn that my favorite food causes global warming. But in my opinion, lessening meat consumption is pretty hard to do especially today. Some parents spoil their kids nowadays because of their busy schedules and it made them think that letting the children eat whatever they like can make-up for the lost time. It depends on the parents on how they feed their children.

After reading this entry, I will try and eat more veggies than meat.

personally, I prefer eating vegetables than meat. I think that vegetables help us digest faster and move faster. it has more nutrients than meat actually. its really healthy for the body and it reduces flabs. eating vegetables can help us live longer unlike eating meat causing us have disorders. we could get germs from there too if it is not cleaned well or if it is cooked raw. we could get high cholesterol there and would lead to other problems in the body. we should just be careful to avoid the problems might occur in our bodies..

The article is substantial and very informative. This is what's happening in reality and we human beings seem to be unconscious of it. Yeah lets accept the fact that meat is really yummier compared to eating vegetables, but did we ever consider the health benefits that vegetables could give us? Me? I personally like eating meat alot, like steaks, burgers, chicken because as a body builder I need more protein to enhance my muscles. But I'm also required to eat vegetables and fruits for some digestive purposes. These vegetables could give fibers that also helps grow muscles. So, the bottom line is too much of something is bad. We have to have a balance diet to stay healthy and fit.

I didn't know, before reading this article, that meat can also cause global warming. And because of the article, I am convinced to try eating vegetables more often.

I don't think it's necessary to be a vegetarian although it would help. We should just find a better alternative in raising animals because the nutrients we get from them are still vital.

i think that loving natural foods like vegetables and like all those high in protein could really lessen the rate of obesity. but at the same time too much greens can really be bed for us. so a little meat would do us good. really i think it's about knowing what to eat and ho much of it. i mean fish can also be a good source of protein although nowadays the fishes might get extinct, but you know. eating an equal amount of meat greens and fish would not only save the world but it would also help one lose those unwanted fats right? :)

The generation now are eating unhealthy and fatty foods, and now studies have shown that meat can also be a suspect for global warming. And thus, people should eat more veggies and fruits to be able to save their lives and the earth as well.
