What would you think if you heard about PAYATAS???
Now think again!
Good new!
Barely four months after opening its biogas plant in the former Payatas dump, the Quezon City government said it has already earned P7 million in advance payment from an Italian renewable energy firm accredited to operate the facility.
The City's stinky place now a place to earn?
Inaugurated last April, the 1.5-hectare Quezon City Biogas Emission Reduction Project is considered the first Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) program in the whole Southeast Asian region.
Pangea to extract, collect and process methane gas from the former dump and convert it into electricity authorized by the Government.
The facility is expected to provide 42,000 megawatts of alternative energy during the project’s 10-year period.
Countries can then convert its carbon credits into cash by selling it to industrialized nations or companies that need to meet its carbon dioxide production quota.
It would surely increase the economy of the country, this is a way of reducing pollution, and a way to earn more. This is a pretty great chance to improve.

by this technology prices in electricity should go down because the only cost to produce this electricity is the building or machine itself that takes methane i think..
This is really great news, the payats city known to be the trash city I would say, atleast now it is being used in a proper and helping way. Goodluck to this project and may it prosper.
Now this is what you call green renewable energy. We should start investing more into renewable energy, its practically free, you just need to utilize nature, like solar power, wind power, currents and the like. We don't have to import as much oil to power our plants while contributing to the lessening of global warming. Meralco can charge us less with this because its cheaper to generate the electricity as well. The pros outweigh the cons so much that we shouldn't be waiting any longer to start the renewable revolution.
It's really good to hear that a dumpsite evolved into an energy generating facility. This proves that any place could be renovated into a very functional facility.
Great news the once known trash heap of the Philippines is now turning into something more useful for everyone to use? Maybe this is a sign that our economy is really growing. Once again the Filipino ingenuity strikes again turning trash into something very useful.
This biogas plant has been quite beneficial ever since the plant made its first operations. And I'll have to admit that this facility not only generates income, but generates alternative energy as well. That's really something!
With this kind of situation, we can all hope that this will change the image of Payatas for quite a long time.
