China throws open doors to world

In the article, China seems to have exceeded the world's expectations. They opened the 2008 Beijing Olympics with a marvelous event! They did a great job and really showed everyone that they were more than prepared for this year's Olympics. Many big leaders showed up and billions of people watched all over the world. The sporting structures and stadiums they have built look amazing and are better equipped. This is the first time that China has ever hosted the Olympics. Their purpose was to prove to the world their greatness, through the industrial and economical boom they have been experiencing. They want to prove that they can be the most powerful country in the world. China has spent $43 billion over 7 years, in preparation for the Games. This is a huge thing for China and for the world. Since the nearing of the Beijing Olympics, China has been under great speculation and criticism. The spotlight has been on them. They have been criticized regarding the issue on Tibet, and their violations to human rights. Their policies are being questioned and whether they deserve the title of hosting the Beijing Olympics this year. It gave them the push to start clearing the air and cleaning their act. They have much to prove! 

I think China's doing its best to get the world community's vote. They want the world on their side. They have been receiving much pounding since they announced that they will be hosting the 2008 Olympics. Many of their secrets have been revealed. But, I think that the world should forget about politics right now and focus on the games. This is the world's greatest sporting event. It's supposed to show camaraderie and sportsmanship, not war and unrest. It symbolizes for something much greater! This is a way we can show our support and respect for the athletes, who have worked and trained hard for this event. They are the most important right now. Their hard work won't pay-off if people keep focusing in boycotting the games and having protests. I agree that China should not do this to their people. They should abolish communism and give their citizens more freedom. China should free Tibet and respect the human rights of their people. But, there is a better time we could show our discontent and shout our views. :D
