Sasama Ka Ba?

Tara na biyahe tayo!

Filipinos tend to overlook its country's premiere hot spots and breath-taking scenarios due to economic upheavals that we experience. This is the reason why the Department of Tourism [DoT] has doubled its efforts in campaigning for foreigners and locals alike to discover and rediscover the Pearl of the Orient's hidden treasures. It's a 7,000 plus islands after all, from reefs to peaks, there is a concealed wonder that is waiting to be uncovered.

Besides, tourism is one of the major revenue sources in our country nowadays.

Wow Philippines!

It's such a shame that we tend to overlook the wonderful landmarks and tourist spots in our own country. The Philippines has one of the most wonderful natural scenes, especially Palawan, Boracay, and Sagada to name a few.

The Philippines is such just a beautiful country. Its natural wonders never cease to amaze me. I can also say the same thing about our culture. It's just sad that we never usually have the time and money to go sightseeing and celebrate our country's rich culture.

Even if Filipinos are willing to discover and rediscover the beauty of the Philippines, it would still be quite hard to actually do it because of the crisis it's now suffering (66% of the Filipinos can't even eat complete, very full meals, according to survey). I think the DOT has made a wrong choice if they are campaigning for Filipinos to go around the Philippines. Such luxurious things are not afforded by many. So, if DOT wants to increase its income, I think it should focus more on advertising Philippines to foreigners so as they would be attracted by the good side of the country.

well, ofcourse for everyone who was born here, knows all about our hotspots and beautiful sceneries. But speaking for those people abroad, who has not stepped on philippine soil yet, they are surely excited in knowing and seeing what philippine beauty is all about amidst the economical situation it is in.

for me, we should focus on our riches and gifts in the country. this is what makes us succeed since we are really relying on our tourists for the financial status we have. we should continue to preserve these great and lovely destinations and hope that we prosper through them.

That's right. Filipinos must be the first ones to appreciate the beauty of the Philippines. DoT must do something to showcase the breath-taking scenes of the Philippines both to Filipinos and foreigners.

That's what I wanna talk about! telling the whole community what we always failed to see!

This nation called the Philippines is already a majestic place. Its scenic beauty and natural wonder is already enough to amaze foreigners and tourists.

It's so sad that Filipinos fail to become optimistic about the current image of the country.

I do believe that the Philippines has a lot of potential in the tourism industry. Not only that we have these beautiful beaches and such, but also, the Filipinos are known for being hospitable, well except of course for the terrorists and other criminals. In general, however, Filipinos are good-natured people that is why they are in demand for professional work abroad (I have read this from an article somewhere). Another proof for this are the opinions of three of my Italian friends who had an immersion trip to the Philippines a few years back. Their purpose of visiting was more like an exposure trip. Having seen some of our wonderful tourist attractions, and having met some people especially the poor Filipino families (yes, they’ve been to the squatters area), they praised us because according to them they have seen something special about us Filipinos. They said that we are a group of friendly people, always happy, polite, and hospitable contrary to their first impressions. At first, they thought that Filipinos are a bunch of barbaric people. But after being exposed to many places and people here in our country, they realized that we have something beautiful. They came with negative expectations about everything in our country, but when they left, they carried with them a different perception. They said that the Philippines is indeed a beautiful place, and that the people are always happy and hospitable. They said that they are looking forward to go back again. Some of them are even helping poor Filipino families get their kids through college. Isn't it nice? Also, one of them said that the best place in the world to spend Christmas is here n the Philippines because everyone seems to be happy- eating noche buena together, exchanging gifts and simply merry-making. Unlike in their country, according to them, they spend Christmas by just attending mass in the morning and that's it. Anyway, the point is they like the Philippines and they also like the Filipinos.

Though there may be a lot of down side that we see in our country such as poverty, violence, and corrupt politicians, we still have a lot of things to be proud of such as our beautiful tourist spots as well as the our good Filipino values. These two positive things can surely attract tourists. So it is but right that we, the people as well as the government should focus more in developing these things for our tourism industry in order to help boost our economy.
