Government investigators and animal welfare activists have rescued 18 dogs from the butcher's knife in Nueva Ecija, using a new law with stronger provisions against the country's illegal meat trade, an official said yesterday.
Two suspected dog meat traders - Jacinto Jalova, 60, and son-in-law Renato Quijano, 40 - were arrested in Monday's raid and charged under a new Anti-Rabies Law which provides tougher penalties for killing dogs for human consumption, said Serafin Gil, a National Bureau of Investigation agent who led the operation.
If convicted, the traders face up to four years in jail plus a fine of P5,000 per dog traded. Under a previous law, traders faced milder sentencing.
In Monday's sting, Gil said activists from the Animal Kingdom Foundation Inc., a local affiliate of the British-based International Wildlife Coalition Trust, posed as dog meat buyers when government agents swooped down on the two suspects. - AP, Artemio Dumlao/Philstar

wawa naman ang mga asong nakatay na. sana ay masugpo ang pagkakatay ng mga aso, dahil nakakaawang isipin na ang "man's best friend" ay kinain at ginagawang pulutan....
It's sad knowing that people kill dogs as their food. Dogs should be pets and should live inside the homes of the owners not the butcher shop. People also can have rabies by eating the meat of the dogs and we are still not yet sure where these dogs come from. They might come from the streets and eat garbage and the next thing you'll know is that people are going to eat the dogs. How sick can you get? People should respect the dogs because dogs are considered as pets and not food.
Woah!! I can't believe that people could go that crazy and kill dogs. I mean they already kill dogs and whats worse is, thay sell the dog's meat too. It's really disturbing for me. Why would people do that to such friendly and lovable creatures? Don't these people know that they should respect dogs just as they would respect human life? My gosh...they are being so cruel.
I don't get it.. Why is it fine for us to eat cows, chickens, crabs and other animals, but not dogs? Isn't that unfair to the ones we eat? My point is, if we're protecting one animal from being eaten, we should do it with other animals, too. Kung pantay-pantay ang lahat ng tao, dapat pantay-pantay rin ang lahat ng hayop.
Ano ba yan! Pati ba naman innocenteng aso pinagtritripan! Nakakadiri man isipin, pero nangyayari parin pala ang mga ganyan. Kaya dapat mas lalo tayong maging maingat sa pag-bili ng mga bilihin sa palengke o kung saan man. Dapat nating isa-isip ang kabutihan ng ating kalusugan, dahil mahirap na ang sistema ng ating lipunan ngayon.
Eh kung ikaw ba naman eh sabog, tapos medyo lasing, tapos nakatambay kayo sa bakuran ninyo habang nag-iinuman(kaya medyo lasing), at nagutom pa kayo. Wala naman kayong perang pambili ng pulutan. Habang kumakalam ang mga sikmura ninyo habang nag-iinuman eh dumaan si Tagpi sa harapan ninyo, nag-power trip yung may-ari ng bahay at nag-ayang litsonin si Tagpi. Kawawa naman.
Minsan eh dala na rin ng kahirapan sa buhay ang pagkain sa mga hindi naman talaga kinakain kaya lang aso, oo aso, ang kinakain nila.

i know its awkward that we eat cows and pigs, but its different for dogs. in my P.O.V., dogs are regarded as house pets and not as something you put in a plate and serve for the family to munch on. it really depends on how you are to an animal, BDTQ. but i sort of agree to what you are saying.

bdtq, i agree with you. But, somehow, I think dogs are really not meant to be eaten unlike with cows, pigs, fish, etc because dogs are known as pets that are taken care of by humans. And they are simply CUTE! :D
