The Sulpicio Lines were accused of withholding the financial benefit that should be given to the relatives of the victims of the mass tragedy that happened on one of their ship. (MV Princess of the Stars) This caught the attention of MARINA (Maritime Industry Authority) which urges the Sulpicio Lines to comply with the civic code and fulfill its obligation. The obligation of Sulpicio Lines is to pay the relatives 20,000php for the transportation of the body and another 20,000php for the burial. Aside from this, each victim will be given 200,000php as insurance payment. I agree, these people are totoly think only of themselves, but think about it if you are the shipping company, you'll also understand there feeling. May be they are just out of money, because they have to pay P200,000 to each of the victim! This is not some kind of small amount of money. Thats why we should also give them some time.
I agree that SLI should not ask too many requirements from the relatives of the victims, since no amount of money can even be compared with the loss of the victims. But I just wanted to add that the Philippine coast guard should also share the obligations with SLI because they are the one who permitted the ship to sail despite the storm.
Even though it would not cover the damage done to the families of those who died in the accident it would be a great help for them to start all over again and REMEMBER the victims did pay for these financial benefits so SL really should pay.
