A simpler lifestyle would do....

http://opinion.inquirer.net/inquireropinion/editorial/view/20080708-147046/A-simpler-lifestyle

We are all suffering in the price boost of oil, food and other basic commodities and services; no one is exempted in this high inflation rate. In a situation like this, there are also some good effects; we can see that people become more reasonable in what they are doing; they use different methods just to lessen their expenses in their everyday life. I think that in the rigorous time like this, the innate intelligence of people can naturally come out and become a good and useful citizen. Here are some ways of how Filipinos lessen their expenses: Some car owners are switching to motorcycles, scooters and bicycles. They are also jeeps that convert their gas to LPG because it is much cheaper than diesel. People are becoming more reasonable in their use of electricity, and other utilities. They are also shifting from incandescent bulbs to energy-efficient fluorescent lamps. Families are recycling and reusing tap water, which really helps them lessen their water bills. People who find LPG too expensive to cook their food are using the old ways of Filipinos lives by shifting to wood, charcoal, rice husks or sawdust. People go back to basic Filipino meal like rice, vegetable, and fish, because even though they are cheap, these foods are also healthy and low in cholesterol. In Short, this article just wants us to help out in preserving natural resources, save the environment, lessen the pollution and adopt the practice of an economical, easy and vigorous lifestyle.

Its good to know that people here in the Philippines adapt to their problems. You posted on your blog saying that people use LPG's and diesel as an alternative and some people left their sedans to a more efficient mode which is motorcycles. I believe people should create a way to solve scarcity in our lives. Maybe they should develop on having the bio-diesel we have today. It is said to be that bio-diesel doesn't give enough combustion compared to unleaded but it sure is great if people can develop bio-diesel to a more efficient mode for fuel.

While this crisis has brought out the Filipino's resourcefulness, it can also bring out the bad side, as the saying goes, desperate times calls for desperate measures. People will have tendencies to rob banks, steal phones, wallets, bags, think of suicide, because of their poverty.

I agree that the increase in the price of oil, food, electricity, water, and other basic commodities and services greatly affects the lifestyle of each and everyone of us. A lot of Filipinos nowadays commute even though they have their own cars, cook simple dinners, cut down on the use of the aircon and lights, etc. The crisis our country is going through is definitely bringing out the resourcefulness of the Filipinos.

It is actually more practical and logical for Filipons to change their lifestyle due to the crisis that we are having about the prices of our baseic needs. Hopefully, Filipinos would think more practically to make their lives a lot easier.

I agree that we, Filipos are expericing a number of inconveniences nowadays. More and more people are commuting by public buses or jeepneys or LRT / MRT. We cannot blame them in doing so because they believe that is the most effective way of how can they save money for family or for personal use. Filipinos now are more practical because they are maximizing the opportunity where they can really save a lot.

Exactly! A simple lifestyle would do.
Let us just think of these price hikes as lesson learned that we have to be contented with what we have. We don't have to have everything we WANT, let's just consider having what we really NEED.

the question is, why is everything going up? prices are going higher. yea. we should try to only buy what we need. that's a good idea. but if the prices don't get high, we'll have better lives. everything's just going up. the philippines is just getting poorer. i think we just have to find an honest leader. ang mahal na ng Mcdo. :[
