The "Feel Good Speech" of PGMA

http://www.inquirer.net/specialreports/sona/view.php?db=1&article=20080728-151242

The SONA of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo was definitely a “feel good” one. I agree with the leader of the opposition in the House of Representatives Ronaldo Zamora and Senior Deputy Minority Leader Roilo Golez when they described the SONA to be a “feel good speech that failed to outline what she intends to do to solve the country’s pressing problems”.

In a period like this, I think we all want to find out what the solution of PGMA is for the problems the country is currently facing. We also want to know how she will assign responsibilities to her cabinet and how to cope up with all the problems we have. We don’t want to hear a SONA like hers which was “feel good speech.” This is because during her speech she was basically saying that everything is alright and we don’t have to worry about a thing. She was talking about success stories and how SOME people are so happy now because they have increased their salaries. BUT it makes us wonder why she talks about success stories, etc? If most of the Filipinos are suffering from the increase in gas, food, electricity, etc. She didn’t think about the rest of the Filipinos since she only focused on the people who were successful. Why didn’t she include the people suffering?

Her SONA this year was just like every other SONA she gave. It makes us think that what we heard during her speech was just the usual fairytale story she gives us.

We don’t need to know the improvements of our country. We need to know what PGMA is planning to do in the next years to be able to make our lives BETTER.

Having a feel good speech could possibly bring forth optimism to the public that there is indeed hope to the numerous problems our country has. There is a solution to everything. Something must be done.

But in a deeper sense, havign a "feel good" speech is also not good for the Filipinos. It defeats the purpose of having an annual SONA. Just by how you call it, "State of the Nation Address", it is clearly understood that the President shoul address and report to the state its current status, involving successes and its failures. At the end, people still found out anyway what she lacked to say. This is taken as a point against her by the people.

Honestly I wasn't able to watch the SONA.. i didn't even have plans of watching it.. haha!! But i think it's always like that, the president needs to report or state the good things that are happening in our country to give a "good" impression to the Filipinos.. we really don't know, maybe it's her way of encouraging the Filipinos that there is still hope for our country despite the crises we face today.. But even though, we Filipinos have the right to know how our country is doing in terms of economy, politics, and many more.. Let's just hope that there would be a positive change and improvement in our country in the future, our president must do what she needs to do.. actions SHOULD SPEAK louder than words!

PGMA did not present solutions to the problems our country is facing. She merely presented the accomplishments she had last year that is why her SONA was called a "feel good speech."

I agree that PGMA should have addressed and reported to the state its current status not only involving it's successes but also its failures.

We should definitely know how our country is doing in terms of economy, politics, etc. As I said we should also hear the failures our country went through not merely the successes.

I agree that our president must do what she needs to do. And that actions should speak louder than words.

A SONA is a speech to be made by a president from time to time, because he/she has to report what's happening in the country. Like any other SONA president GMA has sponken in, everything she says are just the same. She tries to make other feel comforted and happy. What's she doesn't know that her little speech is no longer working for most of the Filipino citizens, because most of the people are now angry. She always says that the country has still hope of being effecient and we all have to work in order for that to happen. What's ironic in the thought she pointed was that she still has the guts to say that our country has hope, while she is the one who's putting the Philippines down and making other's lives a livig hell. If I were president Arroyo I'd stop saying things that I haven't done and try to make a difference in the country.

She has to be optimistic about our country. If our president herself doesn't believe that we have a future, then we wouldn't know where to get the hope for us to believe in our own country.

Gloria should only say what she can do and what she needs to say. If she keeps getting the hopes of the people too high and she underachieved, many will only be disappointed in her.

I was not able to see PGMA's SONA but I think it's almost the same as her last year's speech. Wherein she enumerated and discussed the achievements of the government for the past year and how it coped up with the different challenges it faced. I agree, that it was another speech where she pointed out and emphasized that the administration will be able to support and eventually carry out the current condition of the country. In my opinion, she should lead her administration in thinking of ways and means in improving our country's condition. Because if in the first place, she is the problem, then nothing will happen, nothing will improve.
