MANILA, Philippines - Senate President Manuel Villar on Saturday said he will initiate an investigation into the cause of death of two overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
The families of the OFWs who died under mysterious circumstances demanded the probe.
The two OFWs were identified as Jeffrey Alberto So, 25, who died in Dubai, and Gilbert Angeles, 29, who died in Singapore. Their remains arrived in the country last week.
So arrived in Dubai on June 13 and reportedly committed suicide by leaping from the fourth floor of a building on June 24, only 11 days after his arrival in the United Arab Emirates.
Angeles, an engineer, was found dead in his room in Singapore on June 30, with probers initially claiming it was a case of suicide. His family believes otherwise since the OFW was reported to be joyous after watching the recent fight of Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao.
Villar pledged legal support for the cases of So and Angeles.
“We grieve with the family of our OFWs and demand to know the real circumstances behind their demise," Villar said. - GMANews.TV

Actually, there many misterious things in the world. We cannot define that through circumstance only...I only hope to find it out quickly.

It's very sad that these two OFW's had caused suicide, and no reason yet to why they did such a dreadful act. There's many mysteries all around us, and hopefully they can figure why they committed suicide. RIP to the OFW's.

How can they probe the causes of death in other countries is some of the deaths in our country have not yet been solved? Like, do they know the names of the men who shot Rizal at Bagumbayan? Well, I'm just kidding at that part but who really shot him? I'm curious. But in my opinion I guess they should figure out the criminals in our country rather than searching for the impossible. *evil laugh*

The Philippines should find out a way for the safety of their people in the different parts of the world. Filipinos work abroad to earn a living and with them, is the risk of getting hurt and maltreated by the people of the different countries. I hope that the people overseas would give respect to our countrymen and respect them as individuals. In addition, I also hope that lesser of these things would happen

Do you think that these deaths were strange because the cause of death was suicide? I heard alot of news about OFWs dying because of suicides around the world especially Japan & Dubai. Do you think these deaths were a coincidence? Maybe these pOFWs were so lonely that they were driven to kill themselves. I hope the government will do something about this issue.

This is good that our dear senator would like to find out what or who caused the death of the OFWs. However, it's a bit illogical. How can you possibly figure out how they died?? There has been numerous cases like these in the Philippines but up to now the cause of death has not yet been figured out or murders have not yet been caught.

There are plenty of possibilities of their death but they should really investigate. They should not just rely on what their family says, they should also gather evidence in the scene and interview the companions of the OFW and the employer of the OFW. Because no one knows maybe that OFW are cheerful outside but is already suicidal inside.

Maybe So and Angeles were lonely and tired of having to work abroad so they decided to kill themselves. I just wonder where they get the idea of suicide if this is the real cause if their death. Note to everyone, suicide is not the answer to our problems.

it's scary how so many people go out of the country to search for greener pastures only to face their death. it's sad they didn't get to earn money and help the families they left behind here. but then again we might never know the real reasons why they died. they say it's suicide but really was that it? the grieving families should look for justice and have the right to know the truth. OFW's should be protected. especially with all the news about OFWs in jordan who are battered and stuff. i mean they are a great asset to the Philippines because they bring in the dollars that help the economy grow right? so it's only right that the Philippine government give them the support and the justice they need in time like this. :)
