Workers to expect an early 13th month pay

Despite the global economic droop, Workers nation wide can anticipate an earlier 13th month pay. The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has directed the employers to give the mandated 13th month pay to their employees ahead of the Christmas season.

Labor Secretary Marianito Roque said that giving the 13th month pay earlier would allow the workers to buy the things they need for the Christmas season earlier and enjoy lower prices. Labor Secretary Roque also pointed out that regardless of the global economic crisis; employers are required to give their employees a 13th month pay and other mandatory benefits.

The National Wages and Productivity Commission also assured that workers will be receiving a higher 13th month pay this year.

I think this is great news! At least everyone can still expect a happy and joyous Christmas. It feels so good to hear good news in the middle of all the problems our country and our world is going through. I agree that the 13th month pay should be given earlier because prices of goods that are used during the holidays increase as Christmas approaches, it would be good for all if more people will be able to afford all their Christmas needs at the lowest rates possible. Also, giving the 13th month pay earlier would allow families to shop for Christmas earlier, thus decreasing the number of last minute Christmas shoppers and eventually creating better order and safety in malls or other places. I believe that Christmas is the most joyous season here in the Philippines so everyone should enjoy a very merry Christmas! ;p

Maliban dito, nabanggit din sa orihinal na artikulo na “Upon integration to the basic wage, the salary hike is already included in the computation of the workers' wage-related benefits. Under the Labor Code, the wage-related benefits include the 13th month pay, the equivalent of the 11 paid regular holidays, the five-day service incentive leave and the premiums under the Social Security Service, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG and Employees Compensation.”

well this is really a good news to the workers since they could buy gifts and what they want for Christmas. with their money they could think of the people whom they want to give presents to. they are able to bargain in different stores and could even pay for sale goods since there are a lot of stores having this Pre-xmas sale which will give opportunities for workers to buy cheaper goods. this would actually benefit the buyer and the seller as well... I hope that these workers would really enjoy this christmas season...

I think it's a good idea to give employees 13th month pay earlier. This would benefit employees because they can save money since some products increase they prices as it gets closer to Christmas because sellers know that there would be a lot of last minute shopping. It is right that 13th month pay is a requirement for all companies because some people's incomes are just enough for their basic needs. So everyone is happy on Christmas because they can buy something they want and they deserve it after one year of working.

This is good news. And I agree that the 13th month pay should be given earlier since the price increase during December is ridiculously high. This is really convenient and safer.

Even if the world is in turmoil, it’s still nice to hear good news even if I’m not really affected by it. I guess Christmas would still be happy for the people in the Philippines. But I suggest that the people wouldn’t spend too much this Christmas because surely, after Christmas the Filipinos would financially experience the harshness of life. So this Christmas we should learn to save so that we can still have a Happy New Year.

i believe that giving workers 13th month is just enough to reward them for their good job and hard work. giving these employee benefits and compensation is a good way to motivate workers to do better in their chosen career. giving incentives is a good way to encourage people to contribute more to the society. giving the 13th month pay earlier than usual is goos so that people could have an ample time to prepare for the yuletide season. since prices are somewhat increasing during christmas season, i believe that giving the bonus early is just the right thing to do, especally is the worker deserves it!

What a great news! It seems that the Philippines is not that affected with the global crisis after all. We Filipinos are just a bunch of happy people. Nothing can really stop us from having a Merry Christmas, not even a humongous global economic crisis! Hurray!

But hold on, isn't it that we must be more vigilant? Sure, the 13th month pay is a relief that can save us much trouble from buying presents, but it can also be a deceiving circumstance. It might give us the false impression that nothing is wrong with the world, that we are exempted from the global crisis. Yet sooner or later, we might just realize that because of it, we are the ones suffering the most. We should keep in mind that the Philippines is just a developing country and it isn't capable enough yet to face great financial problems on its own. So we should be more careful with our expenditures especially this Christmas season. Not that I'm trying to be an antagonist here. All I'm saying is that we should not be too over confident.

Nevertheless, have a Merry Christmas to y'all! :)

This brings good news to our workers especially to families who are generating low- income. Giving them their 13th- month pay would just mean giving an incentive to them but, this is already a big thing since nowadays, money is really hard to earn. They also have the right to enjoy this kind of benefit given that they have been working all year round and I am glad that the government did not really object to it, as it is also a mandatory action. However, for me, 13th –month pay is not all about being able to spend it from the time you receive it, it is always a better idea to think of using it in a practical way, such as, to pay an existing debt, to invest, to share, or simply to save it.

Giving employees and workers their 13th month pay earlier would be a great reward for their hard work all year long. They could shop for gifts earlier to avoid Christmas rush wherein prices are all sky high. Receiving their 13th month pay in advance is really a big thing especially for those employees that only receives minimum wage or less.

It's nice to hear that the Dept of Labor had the initiatives to increase the 13th month pay and be given earlier. Although the government has it's own reason and hidden agenda for doing this, the more important thing is that Filipino families would be happier this Christmas season.

This is good news for the employed people. This is a good idea by the govenrment and some companies because this is very practical. It enables the person to consume his/her basic necessity to prepare for christmas and for consuming the good or product cheaper. I hope that this will be done in the next years to come.

even though im not employed yet, i can appreciate the early 13th month pay for those who are. some people need it more than others. those with debts, can finally pay their dues before the year ends and can start a new year with a clean slate. and for those who are more well of, it would be easier to plan for vacations knowing that you have cash to burn. also, if you want to save your money, receiving it earlier can help you gain higher interest when you deposit it in banks.

on a lighter note, it would be easier to shop for christmas item earlier to avoid the predictable christmas rush that everyone will be a part of. so if you receive money early, it would be much more convenient for people to shop before getting stressed a few days before christmas

I think this is good for people who likes to buy their needs in cheap price for the Christmas. However I'm just worried what if the merchants are going to increase their prices because they also will see this article. Because workers will receive their salaries earlier than 13th month pay, the merchants will increase their goods' prices earlier than 13th month pay as well. But it would be still better to give their salaries earlier because the price before 13th month pay and after 13th month pay will be different.

It is nice that the Filipino workers will be able to get their 13th month pay ahead of time. I think this is really a big help to the Filipino Families to prepare for Christmas especially now a days that we are have the world crisis. I just hope that all the companies will be able to abide by this rule because i think that companies also are have trouble with their financial aspects.

even with global economic crisis, it does not affect to the Philippine. i think this new policy very adavantage for the Philippines workers because people can prepare christmas for their celebrating. Every poeple must happy and enjoy with chirstmas. aside from this aspect. i would suggest that look around our neighborhood. there are still many people who could not celebrate christmas due to poverty. We have to extend friendly help to people who could not celebrate christmas.

This is great, a wonderful news for the workers. At least these workers are being rewarded for all the hardwork they made. And with an early bonus, they sure should have a have happy and joyful christmas. It also is proper since this early bonus can make workers be more inspired and motivated to work better and harder to have more and better output in what they are doing. The more things these workers can accomplish then the better and more things we get in return which is a really nice thing for us.
