Kids mimic parents' diets from an early age

http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/lifestyle/11/05/08/kids-mimic-parents-diets-early-age

Giving kids healthy foods as early as 2 years old could influence them on choosing fruits and vegetables rather those unhealthy foodstuffs like candies, chocolates and junk foods.

This study has been proven when children were given the chance to shop their preferred foods and found out that what they have got were also the foods that was bought by their parents.

A typical kid wants to eat sweets and junk foods but with some children with parents training them to eat healthy foods tend to refuse these unhealthy stuffs.

"The data suggest that children begin to assimilate and mimic their parents' food choices at a very young age, even before they are able to fully appreciate the implications of these choices," write the researchers, led by Dr. Lisa A. Sutherland of Dartmouth Medical School in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

A child's shopping cart tends to imitate their parents' grocery list.

So for parents, why not train your kids to eat healthy foods as early as 2 years old to have a healthy living life.

This is good to hear. Even if not a parent, I will keep this in mind for the future. And I agree, most children tend to imitate adults. I think it's a form of adapting for them.

Parents should train their children like this so that future sicknesses.

This is just a reminder that parents should set a good example on their kids. During these early stages in life, I believe kids develop habits that they might continue on doing forever. Concerning the diet, we don't want kids to be obese or malnourished at a very young age because this will burden them when they grow up. It is is very hard to lose or gain weight. Better to just give the kids the balance diet they need.

naturally, a child would imitate the people they grow up with. kids look up to people surrounding them as their role models, so adults, especially the parents must see to it that they're portraying a good example. making a person want to eat something he is not accustommed with sure is difficult, that's why it's really best to make these kids want healthy foods at a young age. it's not bad to enjoy sweets and junkfoods but let's not spoil them with these; they could have these once in a while, as a reward perhaps. it's good to have a healthy diet at a young age to avoid future health complications. for me, one of the important things that parents leave their child is good health, second to good morals and values i guess. and education too. =)

Parents are said to be the first educators of children, therefore, they are and should be the ones setting a good example to them and should not let the children imitate what they are doing or what they are eating for that matter. As early as possible, parents should already train their children with what kind of food they eat. As parents, they are able to give what a child should really take and get hold of, thus, giving importance to the value of healthy eating.

As we all know, children have their own appreciation and response for the power of influence, and since healthy eating habits are nowadays important for parents as it is for their children, I think that the guarantee in eating healthier foods will be easy. Setting an example is the solution, and not just by telling them.

i believe that all parents want their child or children to have a healthy body. as early as infant, they try to ensure that their kids take proper nutrition and vitamins so that they can grow healthy and live longer. they train their kids to eat what is right and avoid some unhealthy foods that would cause them to have some disorders. taking this step would really help parents with their kids' health. if parents would want their child to start healthy, train them early!...

I wasn't aware that kids as young as 2 yrs old could mimic their parents' food choices. Well, kids have been known for eating junk foods like candies and chocolates, that's why I was fascinated by this article.

If the study about children is true, then its definitely a good thing for the future generation. Parents could be very careful with what they buy and what they eat. Not only that the parent was able train the child to eat healthy but unconsciously, he is also taking good care of himself by avoiding junk foods.

Eating healthy at a young age would definitely make the kid stronger and less prone to diseases and complications. So, parents should start setting a good example to your child.

I agree. We should train children earlier; we should train them from their young age. In this way, they will get used to eating healthy food rather than unhealthy ones. Moreover, this can prevent a child form being obese and malnourished. Also, prevent children from having diseases when they get older.

although im not a parent, i know for a fact that when we teach kids, the saying 'actions speak louder than words' apply. like when were teaching a baby to open or close his/her hand, we demonstrate because we know that babies cannot understand otherwise. with diets, i think that it is apparent that kids will imitate what parents eat. some parents allow their kids to eat sweets only to find them whining and throwing a tantrum the next day if they cant have chocolates for lunch. i think that it's best for parents to show their kids that healthy food are nutritious by eating the same. candies and chocolates can wait for a few more years.

This is a good news. In my opinion, it surely affects the children. I was not able to eat so much when I was young, but since my parents ate so much I just imitated them automatically.
I realized that the role of parents is very important for growing children.

Thank you for posting such valuable information! This will help me to become good father to my children. I will try to buy something that is healthy and avoid buying junk foods or something is not good for health.

Training kids in an early age gives them the right discipline to know what they should eat and what they should avoid. I believe this is true for parents are the only keys in setting the foundation of their children to become what they want them to be. Too bad not all parents have time to guide their children; because if all of the parents would do this, then our society will surely be a more healthier society.

It is good to hear that there is a way how to help kids to choose good food rather that the junk foods. i kept on hearing from the news that the incidents of obesity and diabetes in children are getting high. I hope that this study will be published or advertised to the public to help the younger generation.

In a child's life, the parents are their first educators. This is just one of the responsibilities a parent has towards his children. Now I realize that parents should be tough on kids when it comes to the kind of food they eat. Not everything seen on tv that looks/tastes good is actually "good" for you. As the saying goes.. "You are what you eat."
