Aptitude test backed for college aspirants

http://www.mb.com.ph/MAIN20081114140780.html

Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman Emmanuel Angeles said that he favors to have the old National College Entrance Examination (NCEE). The NCEE was initiated by Presidential Adviser Dr. Mona Valisno and it was abolished in 1994 by then Education Secretary Raul Roco so that more high school students can enter college. The chairman said that students who want to go to college will take an aptitude test and the result will be divided by into two groups - those who will go to pre-college and take the technical vocational evaluation test (TVET) and those who will enter the university.

This educational system has both advantages and disadvantages. Each entrance exam offered by universities is good for students and gives them more chances to apply in these universities. Even if we did not pass the entrance exam for a particular school, we can take another exam from another school. On the other hand, NCEE provides motivation to study hard because they need to prepare for the exam early for them not to fail. As a university student I preferred to have an entrance exam for every university because no one wants to fail in their life. I was fortunate that I did not take the NCEE.

I think this is a good idea. I think this will help improve the education quality of the country. i think this test will also be able to match the capability of the student to his course and i think this will help lessen the underemployed and the unemployed in the country. But i guess there is also a downside in this project. There will be less choice for the student.

By bringing back the aptitude test, the government is giving an opportunity for the education industry to improve. This would help also students to enhance their educational capabilities.

I agree that by giving incoming college students aptitude test, the education quality of the country would improve. It would actually make the country's education system more credible to other countries as well. It would really test the capabilities of the incoming college students with the course that they would like to take, and the university that they would like to go to. Also I think that by having aptitude test, the country would produce a variety of professions. Cause right now almost all are taking nursing, so what happens is that there is a overwhelming amount of nurses that the country is producing while other professions such as chemists and teachers are neglected. Although like what pinkdoodle said the downside of this is there is a limited choice on the college and course that they would like to take.
