According to the Department of Tourism, Russian tourists who want to escape the harsh winter in their homeland are expected to visit Boracay starting next month.
The DOT regional director for Western Visayas Edwin Trompeta said that tour operators in the country were able to book around 1000-1500 Russian tourists for a stay at the world famous island in Aklan.
The Staff of various restaurants in the island have started learning basic Russian language and cuisine in anticipation of the arrival of the Russian tourists, Trompeta added.
The Russians will compose the second biggest group of tourists from December to February next year, next to East Asians. Businesses on the island expect a windfall profit with the arrival of the Russian tourists.
Even with the credit crisis affecting the world economy, Trompeta still expects these Russian tourists to spend a lot during this vacation. By Ronilo Pamonag,

This is good news for the business sector and the country as a whole, because it proves that tourism industry in the Philippines is still strong despite the financial crisis being experienced in the U.S. and other countries. This indicates that a well planned program particularly in tourism can withstand the negative effect of the current situation.

This is good news. I agree that the business sector in the Philippines is functioning well. I hope that the Philippines will continue to be a tourist attraction to lots of foreigners. However, there is a problem happning in BOracay wherein the government claims the property of Boracay. Through this, what will happen to the personalities who invested there. This is not good news because possible, if the government takes care of it, the beauties might be destroyed.
It is so nice to hear that the foreigners are still interested in going to the Philippines. Indeed the DOT is doing a great job. i just hope that this will continue to help our economy. I heard that we are getting a lot of money from the tourism industry. I hope that this will continue even though, as mentioned, there is a world wide recession.
Tourism certainly would help our economy in epic proportions. Hopefully our natural treasures would still be preserved not only for now but also the future. Once it is gone. It would be hard the restore it to what it once was.
this is excellent news, especially to the tourism and business sector. Tourism really plays a big part in the economic stability of a country. However I do think that there are more tourist attractions other than Boracay. The government should develop those tourist spots and advertise them so that there would be more tourist coming here in the country, and thus more income for the country.
the Philippine is get a lot of profit from tourist business. it is really good news despite economic crisis. i went boracay 5 years ago. it was so nice, they were kept natural beauty. and then, i went boracay year ago. i felt so disappointed due to everything was changed... more shop, road and bar. The Nature was destoyed. Boracy must keep theor initial natural enviroment.
It is nice for the Philippines' economic development and tourism industry. The island Boracay will be filled with a lot of foreigners and tourists like me. It is so sad for me to hear that there is a great number of people crowded in the Boracay. I hope that Boracay would keep its beauty despite many tourists visiting it.
One of our most popular tourist attractions is evidently Boracay. It's great that the tourism here in the Philippines is doing well despite the fall in the world economy. I do hope that we all take part in taking care of our tourist attractions, not just Boracay. We will not only help keep our environment clean, but also help the economy by rising the tourism here. We need to learn how to appreciate what we have. It would be nice if other countries knew about all our other attractions like banawe, bohol, corregidor, and others.
Philippines have indeed a lot of tourists spots. We must learn how to appreciate it and take time to visit those places.
Philippines can be a major player in the travel industry with our world- class beaches, exotic destinations and diverse activities.
All we need is a concerted effort from both the public and private sector.
It is a job well done for DOT in making this thing to happen. With all these Russians expected to come to the country, this event can help our economy rise in a couple of ways which is a good thing. And hopefully we can attract more and more tourist to the Philippines to continually help our economy and i also hope this will continue on. On the other part, the people and the government should find ways to preserve and take care of our tourists attraction or even enhance it to further attract more tourists to visit our country.
