‘Political oligarchies’ perpetuated
I believe it has been a practice amongst Filipinos to blame and complain about how bad the government runs the Philippines. We blame the Executive Department for lack of efficient governance. We blame the Judiciary systems for their injustice. We blame the Legislative bodies for their pork barrel. We blame the corrupt "kotong" cops. We blame the street sweepers who don't show up. We blame the "high" bus driver for reckless driving. We blame the incosiderate "bastos" jeepney drivers for causing traffic. We blame the poor for being lazy bums. We blame the street children to be the snatchers. We blame the calle boys for being the "akyat bahay gang". We blame the trucks for smoke belching. We blame the MMDA for flooded roads and streets. We can blame everything on everything else. So much so that we can even complain about all that there is that exists in this world and find something or someone for that to be blamed upon.
Let's face it... Many Filipinos love blaming and complaining. From the smallest of things to the greatest of things there is always something to complain about and resultingly something or someone to blame it on.
Have you ever thought about looking at yourself? Have you done your job to live and contribute to society? Have you done something to make this world a better place to live in? Moreover, have you lived a responsible life?
Before we look at others, why don't we check ourselves first? Have you thrown your trash in the proper place? Have you fully (used both sides) used those piles upon piles of bond paper? Have you checked your own car? Maybe you yourself is belching. Did you cross that stoplight even if it was you red? Maybe you didn't see it was red. Yeah right. Do you cross the street responsibly?
What I'm trying to say is... As we go about our days, why don't we live more responsibly? Why can't we just do things the way they should be. THE PROPER WAY. Why does everyone have to be an exemption to the rule?

First of all, I think the act of blaming is nothing more but a part of the human behavior, and that every other human beings in the world would tend to blame others for certain mistakes they committed 'given the chance', but of course the probability of such occurring would depend on the morals and beliefs that such person holds in his or her persona.
As stated from an article from Wikipedia, "Blame seems basic to hominid behaviour," and that "It seems to be an essential part of human development."
Actually blaming is not the problem here. Like you said, "Why can't we just do things the way they should be. THE PROPER WAY."
By the way, I think we are required to get articles from September 2008 and onwards only.
The problem with Filipinos is not that they put the blame on other people, it's just that they tend not to do their own duties and responsibilities and just depend it on other people. Another thing also is that they usually won't do such a thing because they think that ther's no point of doing it if others won't do it anyway. It is like "why behave? why follow? if others do not.."
I think we should start to evaluate ourselves first before we speak up and tell others to think of what they had contributed to the society or to the country. I think this article is also an act of blaming...^o^
"I think this article is also an act of blaming...^o^"
@ street_rulez
I couldn't agree with you more.
Alright. Thanks for the views! Are you sure we have to get current articles?
@street_rulez
You got half my point:
"I think we should start to evaluate ourselves first before we speak up and tell others to think of what they had contributed to the society or to the country."
But your response is also not entirely the case. Just because others don't follow rules you won't either? What kind of principles is this? Whatever happened to people that stand up to their principles? So you're saying since everyone else doesn't follow... We should allow ourselves to descend into anarchy?
If you call this blaming. Then I don't know what happened to making a point.
I think what street_rulez wants to say is that, behind all those words written above - that stretches out your point - lies a subliminal implication of you 'blaming those who blame themselves'.
for me, the reason why people blame others and complain too much is because they can't or won't admit their own short comings; and/or because they're helpless and simply can't do anything about the problem and so they just pass it on to others and whine. i think the probable solution here is lets just do our part to the best of our abilities to stop the whining and the blaming. =)
I agree with paradoxic, blaming is a part of human behavior, it is inate in us to blame the mistakes on to others. And I think no matter what we do we can never stop blaming others and we can never blame ourselves. I think the best thing we can do is do our part, it doesn't have to be big, like mundial17 pointed out in his/her article we can recycle our used bondpapers and use the back part or we can cross the streets in a proper way.
At least even if we continue blaming others, we have done our part. NOT that doing our part would gives us any right to blame others, but for me, doing our part for the society would at least give us, if any, more right to complain than those who don't do their part :p
@street_rulez, paradoxic, mundial17
I believe blaming and initiative should complement each other. If there's nobody to blame, then we don't have to do something...since that would mean everything is in the right place. However, by blaming I speak of criticisms...we criticize because we want development from those in other fields, in our own areas on the other hand, we should do the things that we ought to do. Our strengths should complement others' weaknesses while others' strengths complement our weaknesses. I hope you guys get my point. hehehe.
by the way, avoid citing wikipedia,they change overtime. ;)
@batmanjr.
I think when we complain, we are able assert what is right and tell people what is wrong(most of the time). If we tend to encourage people to stop complaining about wrong acts, then it won't be soon that we'll be the "evil city" of the world. ;) hehe. Assert what is right, always. :)
looking in our economy's situation, it can be said that we people, do not act as one unit. we keep on blaming the government and the people who are running it. Why, if we really want change, and we think we can do better, why not act? I know it's much harder done than said but, sometimes if we really think about it, it's not only the government's fault. it is also our fault.
People are greedy in nature. What makes us different from others is that, We do not have discipline. If we don't have discipline, it is much easier for greed to overtake our minds.
This post is very sharp criticism. In my opinion the reason why we are neglect the traffic light is because there are not so many of them and there is not so many proper pedestrian crossings in the Philippines +_+
Though the poster of this told us to criticize ourselves before we blame on others, I still have to blame on Politians who are not using the budgets properly. I hope before they satisfy their own appetite, they use the money for making many traffic lights and pedestrian crossings and such as things which are everyone's advantages and country's. I'm actually tired of seeing, listening the bribing of public service personnel like police officer, senators, and more.
I believe if everyone of us are trying to criticize ourseleves and "know thyself", as what Socrates who are considered the wisest man before said there will be better world than this.
Actaully I believe this things same goes for everyone in the world, not only for Filipinos.
Thank you for posting such good criticism. ^^
