Printer maker explores possibility of hiring Filipino software engineers

SOURCE

MANILA, Philippines - Japan-based Brother Inc has sent representatives to explore the possibility of hiring Philippine engineers to develop software applications for its printers.

Since Filipinos are proficient in English, “it’s better if the company moves its software operations to the Philippines because its main markets are the US and Europe," Brother Philippines general manager Toshiaki Ishayama said in a press briefing.

Hower, Brother—which is celebrating its 100th year in Japan—still has no plans of opening a factory in the Philippines.

During the same event, the company announced that it will open its Davao office on August 8, 2008, in an effort to replicate its 40 percent growth which was reported in 2006 to 2007.

A sales surge in its multi-function printers allowed the company’s Philippine unit to become the second in the industry, it said.

Like most printer companies, it gets most of its revenues from consumables such as inks and toners.

“But unlike some of our competitors which almost give out their printers, our products are still competitively priced. That goes to show the quality of our printers. It just doesn’t make sense to give them out so we can earn from the consumables," said Glenn Hocson, the company’s assistant general manager. - GMANews.TV

This is good news because when they set up their own factory here, they shall need additional workers from our country. Because of hiring, unemployment rate shall go down and more Filipinos will be given a chance to work and to earn income.

But let us not forget that this is an international company residing in our lands. We shouldn't also be overexcited by the fact that they will offer employment. We should always secure our resources, especially the most important ones, us manpower, Filipinos.

employment ulit. good news. if this happened, more filipinos will be employed. <-*no-brainer* employment rate will go up. many software engineers will not be underemployed anymore. but its a japanese company who'll benefit more from this. filipinos should work harder by themselves instead of waiting for other countries to give help. Go RP.

Wow. Filipinos are in demand once again. Well, maybe not in demand but people are going to have jobs and are able to support their families. Cool. :D

Good news indeed! I hope more countries will see that the Filipino engineers are more than qualified to work in abroad. This will also improve the employment in our country.

good news for our fellow engineers! this means more jobs are to be available here in the philippines. this could also increase our economy because it shows that investors have interest in our country despite the problems.
