Four professors from the University of the Philippines-Diliman released a study on how to reduce the power rate by at least P2. This was held on August 4, 2008 at the UP Engineering Theater. The study was funded by an open grant from the Office of the Chancellor through the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Development.
They observed that the following amounts can be cut off:
- Meralco power cost at optimal mix (P 0.88)
- Reduction in Generation Rate Adjustment Mechanism (GRAM) and Incremental Currency Exchange Recovery Adjustment (ICERA) charges (P 0.284)
-Reduction in National Power Corp. (Napocor) basic average generation charge from peso appreciation (P 0.056)
- Reduction in Napocor basic average generation charge from plants sold and removed from rate base (P 0.32)
This study may help us Filipinos to reduce our electricity bills however I don't think that the above mentioned companies would agree to it. It is nice to know that there are ways on how to lessen our electricity bill. If ever these amounts are taken off then it would be great for the country. Imagine how much we'll save!

It's good to know that not all expenses in life are increasing. The meralco can decrease 2 pesos per kwh and this can help a lot of people. It can save hundreds of pesos for the people who are using electricity. Also, it can also make the lower class's lives easier. People can enjoy life better when there is a decrease in price of every good. :D
Tama..
well here's some good news. the prices for some commodities increased just yesterday. but then, this is just a "CAN BE", not a "WIL BE". to queenbee, we are all hoping that the Php 2.00 cut shall be approved.
sana mangyare 'to. this would be of great help to us. baka dagdagan ni inay ang baon ko niyan. P2 is a big cut. we'll save more money from this. i hope this project will be done and be permanent. everything's going up, atleast we'll save some from electricity.
hopefully they will be able to cut this 2pesos off the bills. But whats more important is that we should do something much more, we should seriosly lessen the use of electricity, go out! take a walk at the park, leave those devices at home, leave the computer and the TV, close those lights which are not being used, buy those light bulbs which dont take up much on electricity.
It really sounds good!
If it happens soon,
I can save my money.
Nowadays, every price is increasing, but this time it is decreasing!
For this lower price, i want people who cannot use the electricity can use the power better than before.
It could help many people in the Philippines.
I hope this would be happened soon.
this is good news. cut back on electricity. save more for food, shelter, and other necessities.
Although these amounts are accurate and realistic, this doesn't guarantee a cut of P2 per kwh.
Since this calculation is just a speculation, we cannot really be assured whether this will really cut back P2 or not. But if it does, then this method will be beneficial for the citizens.
wooohoooo! This is good, especially for me! Since the power rates can be cut by P2 per kwh, i can use the aircon in our room at a longer time. Longer time on, longer time to sleep for me! I hope the rate just keeps on going down.
Finally, another good news. This price cut in the electricity is very useful to all the Filipinos, lower electricity bills translates to lower cost production and higher profit. I hope there will be more price cuts in the future.
