I would actually vote for lessening the term of the president and vice-president. This would make them work faster and efficient because a term with five years expects them to work rapidly yet effectively. And yes, also, the terms of congressmen and local official should remain the same, this time period is enough for them to show what they got and serve the people within their locality. Unlike the president and vice-president, the local officials are handling smaller units. While the President and Vice-President is handling the whole country.

I guess that this is not a destabilization but rather a challenge for the future leaders of our country. They should really do good, with utmost speed and efficiency.

It could be caused by distrust of nation. Even I have stayed here for 2years but I can recognize the corruption in society. If nation want to fix it, the first step would be choosing a honest president and statesman.

5 years would pose some problems especially with long-term projects but I agree with thelittlemermaid, this would increase efficiency and possibly effectiveness of the projects. Oh well, the government would still have corruption and all that, you can never really remove it, it comes with power. The least you can do is minimize it to a certain extent that the country would benefit even with such corruption present.

Like the others, I would go for lessening the term of the president and the vice president. In my opinion, 5 years is enough for them to show how "effective" they are or they can be. If they can prove a lot of things to the Filipinos in five years, then we can say that he/she is really effective, he worked fast and could have possibly brought a change to our country. Another advantage of this is that if we don't like the president, we only have to wait for five years before we can replace him and look for a better leader (if there is..). But nowadays, it is really hard to trust our leaders. Generally speaking, our country has a dirty politics, so if a politician is kind and not corrupt, some Filipinos would still think that that particular politician is corrupt. I don't really expect much from our leaders because corruption is really there, Before, I thought that Gloria would be an effective leader because our country had a bad experience with former president Joseph Estrada, but now, it seems that our economy weakened and prices of oil are continuously soaring. But whoever the next president would be in the upcoming election, I hope that he/she would really do something to improve our country in terms of politics and economy.

People want this because of the corruption in the government. The people distrust the government and that a 5-year term is a safer decision just in case the president or vice president proved to be unfit to lead our country.

Five years to make a country better is a little too short don't you think? The Filipinos these days are getting impatient because of the lack of excellent leaders for the past years. But still, i don think the country could simply change within six years. and still they want to reduce it to five? Alas, there are some positive points on this. The President could be forced to work harder and become more efficient due to the lack of time. But then again they could become lazy and stop working on their projects because their term wont be long enough to see them finish.

In Korea, the President is changing every 4 years. But the longer period is helpful I think.

Because if the government and the country handled by a person it could be develop more faster. If the president is changing recently, it could be more confusing for the people in the country.

I do not know the politics well, but I think the longer period will be more helpful for the country's development.
