FIRST it was the laborers; then the nurses and caregivers. Now Filipino doctors are making a beeline for Canada, Finland and Bahrain—a few of the countries that have signified their intention to hire Filipino professionals by the thousands.
Former Health Secretary Jaime Galvez Tan said that although the hiring will create more job opportunities for Filipino health workers, this may lead to more “doctorless” towns and cities in the Philippines.
There are 120 municipalities in the country without a doctor, Tan said. In Western Samar alone, 16 of its 21 towns don’t have doctors, Tan said at a health forum.
The unabating exodus of nurses and doctors overseas has prompted Negros Occidental Rep. Ignacio Arroyo to file a bill that requires newly graduated health care professionals to render at least two years of service before they are allowed to work abroad.
Philippine Medical Association president Rey Melchor Santos pushed for the approval of the magna carta law for health workers which will ensure more benefits for health workers and make them stay in the Philippines.
It is one of the biggest problem.
Especially for the doctors and nurses, they want to go abroad to work.
Because if they work in abroad, they can earn more than they work in this country.
But, situation now is made by the people who do not think about their country.
If the healthy workers go abroad, who will be remain for your country?
And who will be making better place to live?
Surely, you can earn more money than in your country but you have to think about
the future of your country.
You have to work for your country.
And for this, the government should solve this problems.

The government should post a damn limit on how many doctors, nurses, and caregivers could work outside our country. The brain drain is just too much!
But we shouldn't be blaming those professionals. it's so obvious that they would want to be paid more to let their family's life more wealthy. Maybe its the government that makes all them work abroad. Balace it!
It's a shame how pros prefer to serve other countries other than their own. But we can't really blame them. You can't blame a person for wanting to ensure his future. But when every nurse, doctor, caregiver, engineer has left the country.. when every last professional has left us to work abroad.. then what?
we can't blame them, because they want to have better future for themselve and their family.
Our economy is usually down these days and it's hard to earn money here, so we really can't blame all these health professionals wanting to work abroad. but thinking about this, in my opinion our professional workers should stop going abroad because they should also contribute in making our country a better place. we need good doctors! what would happen to our country when almost all our best doctors are working abroad? shame on them labelling themselves as filipinos and yet they choose to work outside their own country.
I agree with all of you, we can't blame them. Not only doctors get out of our country but other professionals as well such as engineers, teachers, architects etc. Our economy is the problem. They go to other countries because it has greener pasture than ours. The worst outcome of this is that the whole family moves with them abroad. I salute those other doctors who remain here and give their best not for the money for the service of our countrymen.
