THE Ombudsman has suspended 19 government officials after a task force caught them using government vehicles as if they owned them, an official said yesterday.
The 19 included a ranking Internal Revenue officer and the national president of an employees’ union, Assistant Ombudsman Mark Jalandoni said.
The top officials were assistant commissioner Aida Simborio of the Bureau of Internal Revenue and Antonio Reyes, president of the National Irrigation Administration Employees Association, said Jalandoni, also head of Task Force Oplan Red Plate, a unit created two years ago to run after government officials using state-owned vehicles for purposes other than official.
Every country has like this problem.
the government should set a good example for the people.
But they are just misuse the thing that we paid.
If the government set a good example,
than the people will follow the government.
But I think the attitude of the government is still need to be better.
Sometimes, we are also having a similar problem.
I think, all of the countries are having such like this problem.
I hope the government set a good example for the people and for the country.

Now that more I like it. Officials should not misuse their privileges for their own need but to serve the people or at least to be able to their jobs right
This is just sad. Officials should be something like role models for the citizens.
Government vehicle should use in performing official business, it should not be use as their own.
we could compare this situation to our government system. our government officials are given such priviledges such as wealth and power, yet most of them use it for their own and contribute only a little for the development of our country. these officials should practice using their priviledges wisely and not putting it into waste. who knows, they might as well change in the long run and do their job as a truthful government official.
Its a shame for these government officials. They are entrusted of these cars because the people expect that these cars will be of service to them, not for these crooked officials. These are bought from OUR money, not theirs. I think these officials have mothers of their own, aren't they supposed to learn when they were young that they shouldn't use what's not theirs? Stupid imbecilles, BURN IN HELL CORRUPT OFFICIALS!!!!
It's such a shame that government officials misuse the vehicles when their main role is to become a good example to the whole Philippine community.
With these such officials parading in every street and corner, we citizens cannot be sure whether elections solve our accumulated problems or not.
This is not good at all... They should be responsible enough to be a good example for the people. This is also a reason why Filipinos are like that.. They should have used the car for government use only..
suspension, that's what they deserve, i have seen the car with red plate parked in the mall on sundays for several times, that should be strictly prohibited

Lead by example! Good job to the ombusman! But let's see if they are indeed fined/detained properly. Sometimes all they do is to make it seem that they're doing their job but in reality they're just using it as press mileage.
But on the optimistic side, the government must be the good example to the people. Why? Simply because they are supposedly the LEADERS of the country!
it is a big shame. officials pa man din sila. inaabuse lang nila ung power nila and dapat lang na tanggalin sila sa position.
what's new? officials will be officials. nasa nature na ata nila yun!=)
