GSIS V. MERALCO

SOURCE

---------

Nowadays,we notice that there has been an excessive rates on our electrical bills. This affects our daily lives due to power rate charges in electricity which we use in everyday necessities. The management of the Meralco abuses its power to the people that is why the Government Service Insurance System wants to change the people in charge of MERALCO so that the power rate will go down and ease the burden of the people.

Winston Garcia as the president of the GSIS strongly opposes the MERALCO'S way of increasing the rate charges. In his point of view, MERALCO should not burden the consumers especially now everything is increasing. Unless the managament is changed, the hard-earned money of the people will be spent more on electric bill charges than the basic necessities of life.

This issue will lead to a court and it is expected that the board will elect new members for the position. The GSIS wants to take over the management of the MERALCO so that fairness can be given to the consumers. Garcia will file an estafa case to MERALCO for overcharging the citizens.

On the other hand, the people believe that Garcia would only pave the way for the government to monopolize power distribution. We just hope that the MERALCO will not continue to burden the public due to their systems lost for that would be unfair for us.

Well what will happen to us if everything will just rise up? It can lead to staggering cost of living. The MERALCO should realize their various effects on the lives of the people.

Repost of my comment from the original post.

I agree. By raising the prices even more, it makes the cost of everyday living even more unbearable than it already was. Eventually, the price will be too high and we wouldn't be able to afford any of this any more.

Regarding the government attempting to take control of the energy distribution, you're absolutely correct. It is a ploy to monopolize the power rates. Should the government take control, the power rates will increase at an unbelievable rate.

What MERALCO should do is to take a long look at what increasing the rates will do to our country. Our future is on the line here. Don't mess it up.

if the government took over the management of meralco, i believe it is another room for corruption. so i guess it is a good thing that the government did not get meralco.

another issue that meralco is facing these days is the systems loss that they are charging us. people protested about being charged for this. meralco even used a popular icon to explain the systems loss to the people. but i still believe that being charged with systems loss is wrong and it should be removed from our electric bills.

Thanks to Garcia, we are now all aware of the abuses of Meralco. Now our eyes our open to what Meralco has being doing to us. We must be more vigilant to ensure that Meralco does not take advantage of the consumers’ trust.

On the other hand, I do not favor the government taking over Meralco since this may lead to government abuse.

Meralco should be responsible enough to face these accusations squarely and be fair to the consumers. :)

The higher the cost of electricty, the harder life gets. It will lead to price hike of other necessities. It would really be bigger problem for everyone.

Hopefully MERALCO will do something about this!!!

I think that, its is better if the government is the one control of the energy distribution. Because the price of the electricity won't be very high, or they can maintain the price of the electricity.

I'm sure MERALCO is aware that the prices they charge the people are high. The people who manage MERALCO should seriously think of lowering prices a little bit, just enough for the people to handle and just enough for the company to earn profit.

This is good and bad. If the government will takeover the management, sure the prices will be cheaper and well maintained. The bad side is that more officials could make corruption since it is a temptation. But my verdict is that Meralco should still be managed by it's owner and try to make the electricity bills cheaper. :)
