Beef and Pork Prices

MANILA (AFP) - Philippine consumers already battling to cope with record rice and fuel prices can expect to pay more for beef and pork, media reports said Saturday.

Okay, enough with the oil stuff for a while...

Beef and pork prices have reportedly already been doubled this year. According to Jun Lim, Vice President of the Cold Chain Association of the Philippines, 90% of our country's beef supply is imported from Brazil.

Now check this out:
The price of beef in January was $2.65 or P114 per kilo, and in May it was $4.50 or P193 per kilo. Pork was $1.90 or P81 pesos in January, and $2.50 or P107 in May. Quite a difference, no?

Well, as of now the effects aren't that felt yet because a lot of what is sold in the market are meats that came in around 3 months ago and were in storage. When this 3 month old supply ends, maybe around August or September, brace yourselves.

Wait Jugo, what about the chicken?

Well, chicken's stable right now because most of our supply is produced locally. (Alright!)

So guys... what can you say about this?

When I heard that oil price has once again increased, I knew that it was only a matter of time before the prices of other commodities increase, too.

Here is a piece of advice to (somehow) help the vegetable-haters and excessive beef/pork lovers. It's time to eat less beef/pork. According to organicfacts.com, "Consumption of Pork in moderate quantities is helpful in gaining energy." It means that only the right amount of meat will be healthy to the body because eating too much of it would lead to obesity and heart problems. By not consuming excessive amounts of beef/pork, not only does one get enough energy, but he also saves a lot of money from the meat he's supposed to eat(but didn't).

Therefore, I believe that the increase of beef and pork prices is a good thing for the people's health.

Well, this is one of the effects of oil price hikes. This scenario is the same as before. Oil gets expensive, so does meat and pork, and everything else. The best thing to do is eat vegatables. It makes you healthier, and you can save money. Try it. Or you could just buy meat and see your money go down the drain.

Repost of my comment from the original post.

Great. As if our country didn't have enough problems already.

Here's a short list of which prices are increasing right now.

Rice, oil, gasoline, energy rates, transportation rates, beef, pork. You name it, it became more expensive.

Let's just hope that chicken wouldn't suffer the same fate. =P

Wow what an increase on the prices! A great difference from the month of January to the month of May. Our budget for our food is not enough for us anymore. When can these prices stop from increasing?

As a substitute, we can just buy and eat vegetables that can also benefit us. It has lots of nutrients that maintain our good health. Compared to pork, pork has lots of fats that can lead to sickness. Everything should be balance though.

As expected, if the price of one commodity goes up, then almost everything will soon follow. I think the best alternative, which others also say, is to just stick to vegetables and fish. Of course, one can't eat vegetables and fish forever, or if he/she can then good for him/her. For those who can't, I think that you can still buy meat or pork once in awhile because I know that you'll crave for that.
In addtion, the price of rice is also increasing, which has a great effect on the people.
I hope that the government can do something about the food crisis that the Philippines is experiencing right now.

Wow ang mahal na talaga ng mga bilihin! Kaya naman karamihan sa ating mga kapatid na kapos palad ang inuulan ay instant noodles na lang o kaya naman patis o toyo. Grabe na talaga 'to!

what can i say ?. wel,to hell with beef and pork! it maybe be good and healthy now, but it wont help in the long run through out your life anyway, you will have some kind of problem when your old. atleast the chicken is still ok, being produced locally, lets just feast on chicken?. well ,better yet, why not everyone be VEGETARIAN!? , stop the killing of animals, why worry about prices of beef, pork and all the meats, when we can easily plant veggies over here?.
Nowadays there are programs for helping out the people who would want to be a vegetarian, it helps if you are, there are alot of benefits, and no animal related disease would haunt you when you are a vegetarian! :)

Well the price increases in commodities such as meat and other kinds of food have been caused by the oil prices as well. The government has to invest more in agriculture and in other industries if it plans to meet the demands of the people, especially in food.

Right.. this is a result of our diets not being balanced enough.

This is the result of the oil price hike. Everything you need will be more expensive as the oil price rises. This is bad for since I love eating steaks. I hate eating veggies! I hope that the prices of these food will not rise as quick as the price of the oil.

The impact of the increase in the price of food items like meat means that the resources of this product has been affected. Plenty factors affect this industry, it probably means that the demand is higher than the supply. This staple food is important for the nutrients of humans. I believe that if the continuous increase of meat then the people will be not as healthy because it might become too costly.
