La Salle-Dasma prof held for attempted rape

A university professor from De La Salle University in DasmariƱas named Arnel Sanchez was arrested due to inviting his student to have sex in exchange of a passing grade. He was arrested in front of a motel while waiting for the student. The student was 17 years old; she went to the district police and showed the teacher’s text messages that contain this, “Ready kna ba? Ok lng ba mag sesex tyo?” She told the police that the professor was threatening her to fail her if she refuses. The professor is now being charged.

As a La Sallian, this is very disappointing even though I am from Taft. That professor still carries the name of De La Salle University. I look at my professors with credibility and importance, but from what I’ve heard, I was really shocked. I am not generalizing this to all professors. I just hope that this won’t happen again because our school has high standards.

WHAT?! I can't believe that a member of the faculty of De La Salle University could actually do something like this. Though the article speaks only one side of the story, there might be some other reasons why the professor did that. The student might have given the prof enough motives or what. That is something we won't know until we hear the side of the professor.

Although such thing has happened, I still believe that its just an exceptional case and the University will definitely take action for what has happened.

This will again blemish the good name of our school. It is just unfortunate that some professors would do something like this. The student did a good job that she asked the police for help. People who have motives like this should really be behind cold bars.

Now, I think that the professor would learn from what disgrace he did to himself.

this makes me sick. its just not right for people to offer things in exchange for sex. never mind the student, she reported the professor to the authorities and was maybe desperate earlier on for a passing grade. at least she knows that it was wrong and reported the case. the professor, on the other hand, should have known better. whatever happened to extra papers for additional grades?? he not only soiled the name of the school, but also put his own family and self to shame. couldnt he have been more stealth and just hired someone to service him instead to degrading a student?

I can't believe that professor actually did that!!! how come he asked having sex with her as a professor in Lasalle. He maybe having a mental problem.
There are still a lot of problems like this in the Philippine's school. It should be banned and professor should be punished.
I was dissappointed that professor in Lasalle did that.....even if I am from Taft.

I don't understand how could this such dishonored man became a professor of an educational institution like De La Salle University. I think the professor's ashamed deed cannot be justified by any reasons or excuses. How can a professor ask his student to have a sex with him? Moreover, he threatened student to fail her if she refuses to sex with him. Even though in case which the one who seduced first was the student (ex, she was asking prof. to give her good grade if she sleeps with him), the professor should have control his emotion since he is responsible for the students and the name of the school where he was working. I hope I would not see this kind of incidents in the news anymore.

This incident is very disapointing and embarrassing. Imagine a professor of DLSU (one of the most prestige schools in the Philippines) is acting like a pig. An ideal professor should be a good role model towards the students, not the opposite. I hope this incident will never happen again, because this can really damage the reputation of our school.

this article makes me so confuse.. how it can be possible with name of Lasalle? but i think i could not qulifying him good or not in moral aspect dur to i strongly belive that Lasalle was qualified him before hire him. I do not know the real true story espasially teacher's side. this article decribed the situation only in one aspect that student side. The Teacher may have some reasons or exsues i think. The Lasalle office need to tell us both side situation.

This certainly is not a very good news because it ruined the name of the school and the reputation of the professors as well. I can't believe that this kind of incident is possible because I only see this in movies. I feel so disgusted because of the malicious acts of these people.

this is very embarrassing especially to the school. The professor should be ashamed of himself. He should be fired immediately. The student did what is right, and that is to report him to the authorities. Sexual harassment has been present not only in DLSU-dasma but in other schools as well. And the victims or the students are too afraid to stand up and fight against them. Maybe because they are too embarrassed or they are scared of the professors.

That professor is just disgusting, he not only dirtied the name of our school, but also of other teachers. Teachers are respected people. How could he use the grade of the student to threaten her.

It is a good thing that the student reported it to the police.

it's great that the student has the guts to go to the police, because she didn't only save her life and pride but she also prevented the professor having more victims in the future.

I don’t think that this should be considered as attempted rape because he did not use physical strength to force himself on the female student. He even asked the student if she is going to have sex with him. But this professor should definitely be fired from the school and he should face charges that he best suits the crime that he committed. The student did the right thing by reporting the professor to the police so she wouldn’t fail the subject and the professor will pay the consequences.

Contrary to the statement of mcluvin if my knowledge of Philippine law serves me right, the fact the student is only 17 constitutes rape, maybe statutory rape, and thus it still rape. And also it does not matter whether the teacher asked the student if it was okay if he had sex with her. The fact that he had asked her already means something, his subconscious was probably already acting. We do not need to hear the side of the student in this case, for me even if the student flirted or suggested anything for the teacher to act or feel that way, the mere fact the he agreed or considered his feelings and his desires for the lack of a better word is wrong. This issue is really important and should be considered not only for the DLSU – Dasma but also for the other schools, because it can happen to other schools. Schools should be made aware of instances and act accordingly.
