13 hurt in another accident on EDSA

article: http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/inquirerheadlines/metro/view/20081117-172620/13-hurt-in-another-accident-on-EDSA

People always fear the number 13, Friday the 13th; the question is, is it really true? The article talks about accidents in Edsa hurt 13 people and the 13th victim was a motorcycle rider who was travelling behind the van. According to Babagay, the Tamaraw FX was cruising in front of the Central Bus Terminal near the Trinoma Mall when it lost its left rear wheel. And this accident was said to be unlucky because 13 people were injured. For me personally, I don’t really think that 13 is an unlucky number whatsoever. It is just the same with other numbers like 8; they believed it to be a lucky number but in reality it is doing no good in believing such superstitions because at times when you keep thinking of negative things it will have a greater chance of happening.

Here are some reasons why the number 13 were considered to be unlucky: the number 13 brings bad luck because there were 13 people present at "The Last Supper" in the Bible; another story comes from Norse mythology. One of the nastiest Norse gods, "Loki", crashed a party at "Valhalla." Valhalla was the "banquet hall of the gods." There were 12 guests present at the hall until Loki arrived. With the mean-spirited Norse god as the 13th guest, the affair turned grim. The story goes that "Balder", "the god of light, joy, and reconciliation", died when Loki tricked Balder's sightless brother Hod into throwing mistletoe at him. Just like Kryptonite to Superman, Mistletoe, you see, was the only thing on earth that could kill Balder.

Whether the number 13 is bad luck or not it will always remain to be a mystery; why? Because it will always depend to us whether to believe that it is indeed unlucky or otherwise. But it is never wrong to say that it is not especially that in this world it is always us who chooses what we want and what we do. We will always have a choice so let us not blame it to numbers and other superstitions.

And for the accident maybe it was just a coincident that 13 people were affected by the accident let’s not think in a pessimistic way because it will just impede us in getting or achieving what we want in life.

It is up to the person to believe if it is just coincidence or it has a direct effect on it. Concrete facts should support this argument. As for the accident, it is unfortunate that it affected a huge number of people.

I personally think that Friday the 13th should be called a stupidstition i mean i honestly think that its coincidental. And for those who think that a one n a million chance event like this doesn't happen, well it does everyday, everyday someone wins the lottery or bingo in different parts of the world. But yah it is sort of freaky.

I think the issue here is not whether Friday the 13th is an unfortunate day but rather the mere fact that another accident has occurred in EDSA. I think it is just a coincidence that it was 13 people who were injured in EDSA. Personally would 12 people make a difference instead of 13 would 14 make a difference would one make a difference, for me the volume of the people injured in the incident is secondary to the important concern. The fact that someone was injured is enough bearing to become an issue; it does not need to be 13 because one person already makes the difference. This news is very alarming considering this past few days more and more news with regards to traffic accidents are becoming more prevalent. I have very strong opinions regarding this matter, for personal reasons which obviously of course with regards to traffic accidents and incidents. The Government should clearly do something about the problem with regards to the driving situation here in the Philippines. I am sure we all know how easy it is to have a driver's license here in the Philippines. Even if you are not a driver you can easily get a License. Even if you fail the exams the written and the drug exams you still can get a license. This is a quandary and a crisis, which should be answered. It doesn’t assure you that if now if you can get from point a to point b safely tomorrow you still can safely. You may be the most careful and defensive driver in the world but if you’re driving in Manila, your never safe, you won’t hit someone but you never know someone might be the one who crashes to your car; hopefully no is severely injured.
