The explanation of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo on the issue on VAT was also very well done. I agree with the implementation of the VAT, because, surely, without the VAT, things would be far worse. Our economy will be way worse than its status now and the peso will not be as strong. This underpins PGMA's belief wherein the rich is obligated to help the poor. The VAT hurts the rich more than it harms the poor; it's just that these rich entrepreneurs are not exactly very expressive. Imagine taking 12% of your gross income which would amount to one peso every 8.50-peso jeepney ride. Assuming jeepney drivers take 1500 pesos including their boundaries every day, which is possibly 1200, the government will then take 180 pesos out of that, leaving the driver with only 120 pesos as net income. Now, imagine owning a gas station. Let's say you get a gross income of 100,000 a day. The government will take 12,000 pesos a day away for the poor. So we can’t say that the VAT is hurting the poor more than it does to the more fortunate ones.
She also mentioned 8B pesos that were spent from the VAT collection. But she also said that the people will lose 84.6B pesos should the VAT be taken away. But then again, we know how corrupt the government is so we don’t really know where the VAT goes to. I believe that we should clearly see where the money is going. The government should show us the “projects” they are doing for us. They should also do some accounting and show us their expenses!

I would agree to the implementation of the VAT by GMA, but the only problem is that are we sure that the money we pay for the tax goes to the right hands? People would pay for the tax as long as they can see the improvement but it will be hard for the people to pay the taxes if all they hear from the news are corruptions of the government like the ZTE scandal and the recent one Tongpats. I would believe that the community would pay the taxes and not complain if they see that there will be an improvement in our country.
Yes. Increasing VAT could be helpful to economy. but I don't agree with increasing oil VAT. Oil prize is really related with our life. If there is much alpha, increasing VAT is rather harmful than helpful.
I agree that the VAT should not be removed. Mainly because it is the source of the government's income. It is where the government draws its projects to serve the people. But why are so many people complain and want to remove the VAT? It is because the government lost its trust to the people. Due to the many reports about corruption inside the government which is inevitably true. As you can see today, even though the government has high amounts of budgets to serve the people, we can't see those money being converted to programs which can help the people especially the poor. True there are programs but it is not enough. We are questioning where are the other parts of the money being spent on? Surely the people will think that it is just going to the corrupt officials pockets. The people nowadays are demanding visible proofs on where the money is going. After all it's not the governments money but it is the peoples money.
I agree to the implementation of VAT, but I don't think applying it to all the products is a good idea, especially for products that are necessary in our lives and we use everyday; like gas. Adding VAT to these products could be a burden to the consumers and might lower the quality of life of the Filipinos. I suggest that the government should remove the VAT from these products.
