Pollution causes P100-M damage to fish and palay crops

Source: http://www.mb.com.ph/issues/2004/08/02/PROV2004080215426.html

According to a recent assessment made by the committee on agriculture of the municipal council, pollution has caused the loss of P50 million worth in crop production and P51 million worth in fish production.

Candaba, Pampanga residents had complained about river and air pollution. Director Lormylin Claudio of the Environental Management Bureau (EMB) has sent a team to inspect and investigate on the complaints.

Several barangays such as Salapungan, Magumbali, San Agustin, and Paralaya were reported to have agricultural damage caused by pollution. Barangays with affected fishing areas which covers 2,000 hectares are Barangca, Mapaniqui, Pangclara, and Magumbali.

Pollution is one of the major problems that the Philippines is facing now. We all see the effects of the smoke that our cars release and garbage we throw around everyday. Even the plants and fishes are suffering from our terrible actions. Now we are faced with consequences like scarcity of food and respiratory diseases brought on by the harmful air that we breathe in.

Everyone should take part in resolving this problem because we are the ones who will gain from this in the end. Little actions such as segregating, recycling, and disposing garbage properly will make a big difference in addressing this problem.

The problem with people is we always want convenience presently. So, with the convenience of not segregating, recycling and disposing garbage properly, we end up with BIG problems piled up, causing MORE inconvenience in the future. It won't kill us if we sacrifice a little time finding trash cans to throw our garbage; recycling will even lessen our expenses. With these done by EVERY individuals, a little inconvenience for a little while, surely, we will have GREATER convenience in the future. It will be SO MUCH MORE worth it. If only people are willing to realize what's more worth it.

I agree with bdtq, true it would be inconvenient because we need to do more work. But we must remember that our actions can scar our future or it can heal it. As of today, we are inflicting wounds which in time, cannot be healed anymore and that can result to a scar but if we tend the wound now, we can heal it and possibly bring it back to its original state. What I am trying to say is that we should act now and not wait to the point where this problem would be really severe.

More often than not, we contradict the different inconveniences that we are experiencing. On the contrary, we should also be aware that the causes of such inconveniences are also because of our daily practices. As what bdtq has said, basic recycling can in one little way help or lessen our so-called list of inconveniences. We should open our minds once in a while because we don't know that we can be the causes of our inconveniences.

this is what happens when we dont think of what we do anymore. little things cause big things to happen. one small piece of garbage can pollute a family of a certain animal, and then the domino reaction begins. in this case, rice and fish productions are affected. OUR FOOD is affected. and gues what, it could've been because of that plastic bag you threw in the ocean two months ago. i'm not saying that YOU (THE READER OF THIS COMMENT) don't help with the alleviation of pollution. i'm just saying that we all should be aware of the crisis we are experiencing and should contribute the improvement of our country.

People today are living the hardest part of their lives. They would do anything in order for them to live the best they can, which is to eat 3 times a day, sleep in a good home and earn a good profit. For this sake, they don't care about whether or not they destroy nature. With this thought, many thing are damaged like the ozone layer, marine life, and many others. Many things are wasted fue to this selfish act. We must not only take care of ourselves, but also our sorroundings.

We should take care of our natural resources! We should use paper bags instead of plastic bags. Or when we use plastic bags, we should at least use it more than once.

It's quite sad to know that the Philippines is a very polluted area. I just recently rode a jeep going to GK and it was my first time to ride a jeep and it is only at that moment that I realized how polluted the city can be. I can smell smoke everywhere and there is no single place that we cannot smell gas smokes. A lot of foreginers also commented that the Philippines is a very polluted country and they're having a hard time breathing the air. Some people tend to get dizzy because of the overdose of the smell of the gas. If this problem doesn't get solved then I believe that more and more problems will arise.
