‘A stolen, not a strong republic’

Source : http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/

MANILA, Philippines—A group of former Cabinet members and other past ranking officials Friday “indicted” President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for her failed promises, and said that for seven years she had wrought “seven curses” on the nation that left it “enfeebled” and impoverished.

Preempting the State of the Nation Address that Ms Arroyo is to deliver on Monday before Congress, the Former Senior Government Officials (FSGO) presented “A Stolen, Not a Strong, Republic,” its strongly worded take on the current Philippine situation.

The FSGO said Ms Arroyo “at the head of our government is the worst threat to the state of our nation.”

“The person pretending to tell us about the dire state of our nation is the very same person who has done the most to destroy the very foundations of our nation, sell its future to its exploiters and abusers, and consign the poor and middle class to deeper poverty and worse despair,” it said.

Asked to comment on the FSGO statement, Presidential Management Staff Secretary Cerge Remonde said:

“These people would know how difficult and how challenging governance is … They’ve had their time and what I can say to them is that this administration can stand on its record, and its record is better than how [they] managed their respective government positions during their time. And since their time is over and now is our responsibility, I hope they’ll give us a chance.”

The president shouldn't deliver her SONA on monday. Every year she says the same garbage anyway. Nothing she said ever came true. She just keeps making promises that we will have a better country but she's the one making it worse.

I would agree that the SONA should be canceled because out of all her promises made, very few were accomplished. but i do think that she tries to make things better. If not Gloria, then who do you suggest? i hope that people open their eyes. the media esepcially one major network has been brainwashing the citizens thinking that PGMA is a totally bad president, which is not true of course. i think that our country hasn't gone down since her second term but hasn't improved much either.

The president should just make promises that she can really fulfill instead of making a lot of promises that she doesn't keep anyway.

yeah i agree that it should be cancel. all that she said in the past SONA and the things that she plans to say is just like a front. i mean its okay if she makes promises but if and only if she fulfills her promise.

i just hope that PGMA will keep her promises this time. No more said promises. Filipino's are tired of expecting things to change, we actually want to see those changes.

The SONA would be on Monday. I hope that her promises and targets would be more feasible compared to her previous SONA, that only led to disappointments. I hope she stops feeding us with these false hope and promises because the people could not take anymore of these lies. Though I know that the corruption in our government is also one factor that affects her plans to be successfully.

the SONA is just a waste of time. the president should do that if she fulfills all her promises.
