President delivers the State of the Nation Address

Original Link

The State of the Nation Address had most people watching their televisions listening to the promises and resolutions she proposes to the public. Of course, the public will not tolerate as they consider these promises false and without any hope. Among the topics mentioned was the e-vat. Most people are now asking for the removal of the Value Added Tax imposing an additional 12% to commodities such as oil and food products but Madam President says this will be an important factor in the implementation of her strategies to help the country stand up from a now suffering state.

I really cannot help but imagine the 12% just going to pockets of government officials whose only concern is their personal wealth. Maybe, her excellency does have a point regarding how her strategies would help the country and it will be fueled by the funds from the vat but looking at the country now, I'm not that impressed with where the funds from this evat are going.

Maybe the country really needs a ray of hope in this time of need, it certainly won't come from the government nor the president, only the people can truly do something about the problems that keep arising in our society.

Gold Crow, you haven't presented even a single evidence to prove your unjust allegations to our goverment official, saying that the 12% e-vat just goes right in to their pockets.

I do have a bright perspective regarding this e-vat law, it does help our economy improves GRADUALLY. We all want change in a snap, but we can't even do that to our very selves. Change takes time, as well as development.

I hope that this year, our president would fulfill the promises and proposals she mentioned during the SONA.

I agree with you GOld Crow that we Filipinos are the ones who can truly help our country rise again. Instead of waitng for our government to change, we should start changing ourselves first. Nothing will happen to this country if we keep on complaining about our government system.

although her intentions may seem good, i have lost most of my trust in the government.Let's face it the Philippines has a very corrupt govenment and i would hate to raise the e-vat so that these corrupt officials may have more money. No matter how much we protest and complain, officials will find a way to gain money illegally

When e-vat was implemented, our economy strengthened, but it was over shadowed by the oil crisis and other controversies that only a few paid attention to our economy. E-vat helps the economy but also helps the poverty experienced by the people because of the high prices of goods. And because of the image of the government, we can't help but think that this e-vat goes to politicians pockets, even if there is no proof.

In my opinion, i dont believe that the e-vat should increase just yet. It would be better if we solve first the problems that our country is facing. This will just pile up to the problems. Hence, no improvement will happen.
Te other case is that e-vat can increase to help the development, BUT in a moderate increase.. not 12%. Everything should be done little by little.

I have to agree to the guy who posts this blog. it is true that GMA doesn't want to remove the VAT because if she removes it then, it will lessen the funds of the people and less chance for her to steal money. For me, it is alright to pay for the VAT as long as we see the development it does to the community. For example, roads smoothen, traffic lights upgraded, light posts changed, poverty rate decreased. It is alright to pay for these taxes as long as these developments are shown. Also, GMA doesn't keep her words, when she says that the Philippines will develop when 2010 arrives, look at the Philippines now. More and more people are becoming poor and the poverty rate of the Philippines have increased. It is sad knowing that GMA isn't the right type of person to run this country.

I think part of the e-vat goes to projects/programs of the government and another part goes to pockets of the government officials. This administration is already hounded by too much scandals that it is impossible for one to believe every word they are saying. They have too much unnecessry expenses like going to America accompanied by 40 government officials and all are staying in luxury hotels while Filipinos here are starving to death.

"Higit na pamumuhunan para sa imprastraktura at taong bayan"...

Pres. Arroyo is stating here that the 12% vat is for "investments for infrastructure and our people". However, here are some of the many sad facts about Manila.
*Lots of projects are started but are not finished, like there are a lot of infrastructures in Manila which are built only half-way done.
*A little rain comes for a few hours, and the streets flood to at least ankle deep already, just like the one that happened yesterday in Taft and in MANY other places.
*Most stoplights are broken and result to poor traffic.
*Baku-bako ang mga daanan.

With these problems (which have been happening for years already) not reducing, how can she say that the 12% vat (which has been implemented for at least a year, too) is for infrastructures and the people? Is this really the result of the taxes we pay? I doubt it.

more ghost projects perhaps? i hope her last year of reign.. este... leadership shall make our economy and our country's state improve. It is true that there is a rapid increase in crude oil and other commodities, but we have no choice. the world market is going down and we have to go along with it. the E-VAT helped somehow but it still affects some other pinoys negatively. anyway, we are all hoping for the best and we are all fighting for what is right. we do need a ray of light nowadays. i just hope we can find it in ourselves.

E-VAT is not a bad thing. The government just needs to use it for the greater good and not for their own good. This should be use to help the our less fortune brothers and sisters.
