MANILA, Philippines -- Relatives of victims of the ship that sank off Romblon during typhoon “Frank” (international codename: Fengshen) are sewing the owner before a local court.

Some 300 families of the victims of the MV Princess of the Stars have sought legal assistance from PAO against Sulpicio Lines Inc., Acosta said.

Though not all relatives of the victims are filing charges, it is expected that more of them are yet to file charges.

She added that these relatives were also going to file criminal charges against SLI.

Balaod's family is demanding P3 million, the Paduas are demanding P8 million, while the Orfianos and Osorios are for P20 million and P800 thousand, respectively.

Acosta said the compensation for relatives would vary depending on the life expectancy and possible income of the victim.

Every victim has a right to file a case against Sulpicio Lines. All victims were aggravated by this tragedy.

Well even a filing a case against Sulpicio won't bring back their loved ones. At least get some justice for the unnecessary deaths of these innocent lives. This is what Sulpicio will get for not fulfilling their responsibilities.

Sulpicio should fix this problem at once. It is mostly their fault why a lot of people died and are injured. First off, they did not stop the ship from sailing even though they knew there was a heavy typhoon. Sulpicio's staff on board did not do everything they could to save the victims.

I think this case is non-sense. No one could have predicted that this would be the outcome. Also, if people knew that a typhoon was coming, then why did they board the ship in the first place? I have knowledge that when a storm is coming it is the captain that decides whether to continue or abort the trip. In this case, when the ship left the harbor the storm was not headed their way but in the middle of the trip the storm changed direction and headed towards the ship's path. Clearly it is not the ship company's fault. Accidents happen and it is unfortunate, but let us be rational and accept the fact that no amount of money can replace the space that was filled by their departed loved ones.

i believe 20 million is an exaggeration for their sue to SLI. I believe that they just need the money to support their family. I mean they can sue that company but 20 million?! i mean they should be attainable. What company can shell out 20 million? I mean if it is 5 million or less it is possible but 20million? its way above the limit. It is also not their fault. I mean maybe partly because they made the ship sail even though they know that there will be a typhoon coming but cmon, people 20 million? that is way above the limit. We know that people's lives is more than 5 million but folks face the reality. The SLI can't shell out 20 million to all the people.
