Fernando on presidential bid: Lakas should close nomination

Source: Punongbayan, Michael. "Fernando on presidential bid: Lakas should close nomination." The Philippine Star. July1, 2008, p.13.
Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Ferenando is asking his political party to stop looking elsewhere for the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD)’s presidential bets for 2010. Before leaving for Iloilo to provide assistance to the typhoon victims, he said in an interview that he wanted to close the nomination. He also said that he is old enough and the party has no reason to scout around. Fernando, who announced his desire of running for president last January, had been going around the country attending activities, speaking engagements and other activities. He said Lakas-CMD still has him and Quezon City mayor, Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. as possible presidential bets, but admitted that a lot may still happen since election is still a year and half away and Lakas is still talking to Kampi members at the regional level to determine if a coalition will indeed be formed. According to political analyst, Tony Gatmaitan, in a presentation before the business community last week that Fernando and Belmonte is among the 16 personalities who would likely run for president. He identified De Castro, Belmonte, Gordon and Fernando as Lakas-CMD’s possible bets and if Lakas-CMD and Kampi really unite, Camarines Sur representative Luis Villafuerte and Local Government secretary Ronaldo Puno might also get nominated. Gatmaitan’s list of possible presidential bets for 2010 election are Senators Loren Legarda, Manny Villar, Francis Pangilinan, Francis Escudero, Gregorio Honasan, Panfilo Lacson and Manuel Roxas II; Former President Joseph Estrada; Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay; and Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro.

There has been some rumors going around that MMDA chairman Bayani Fernando will run for the position this coming 2010 presidential elections. Well, looking at his accomplishments, he did a fairly good job being mayor of Marikina and now as MMDA chairman. Maybe, he could be a good candidate but I don't think much of the masses will go for him since some of his projects such as cleaning up the roadsides by through demolition almost always involve the squatter population.

I kinda like him but not as president. He's actually brutal in implementing his rules, baka maging next Marcos pa yan. I like Binay. he's my uncle. haha!

Sa tabi lang ng bahay namin yung MMDA. Kaya alam ko na ginagawa talaga ni Bayani ang trabaho niya.

But as president? Di ko alam kung gagawin na niya trabaho niya kapag presidente na siya.

Bakit di na lang siya maging MMDA chairman hanggang sa tumanda siya? After all, he's doing a great job. Yung mga MMDA officers lang sa kalye ang mga walang kwenta.
