MANILA, Philippines - President Arroyo will ask Filipinos to unite to "help the poor" and "strengthen the nation" during her State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, Malacañang said Saturday.
Press secretary and presidential spokesman Jesus Dureza said Arroyo would give a "clear" report on what she did despite problems plaguing the nation.
"Kailangan sama-sama tayo, tulungan ang mahirap at patatagin ang bansa so when I turn over the presidency ang susunod di maghihirapan (Her message will be, we have to unite and help the poor, and strengthen the nation so when I turn over the presidency the next leader will have an easier time managing the nation)," Dureza said in an interview on DZXL. He said the SONA would show Mrs Arroyo is a "caring" president who made "sacrifices" by making "unpopular but right" decisions, including maintaining the expanded value-added tax (EVAT).
Dureza said the President would also insist that she would "continue the reforms till the end of her term," and that such reforms are for "long-term self-sufficiency." - GMANews.TV

The president herself is the one causing disunity here in our country. She has been president for so long but she hasn't unified our country. How can she expect us Filipinos to work as one in helping the poor if she herself is not doing it?
every big action starts with a small one. but i haven't seen that yet. good ideas from the president, but nothing has been done. we'll see.
but from another point of view, we cannot just leave everything to her right? as citizens we must comply not complain. Filipinos have been so busy complaining and being angry that "we" are not even helping. think about it.

Unity is really needed in this country. I hope what the president would say in the SONA would be achieved.
True, we need unity...but we need a leader to unite us and that leader can't be you, Gloria.
PGMA had her chance in the end, she failed but not entirely though but still generally she failed. PGMA asks us to be unified but how can we be unified if the person unifying us cannot be trusted. You have failed to trust us so you must face the consequence of your action.

I believe that there can't be true unity in this country. Our government's too deep in corruption it can't rise anymore. The masses are too angry to even be able to help themselves anymore. These two forces give off a scenario that keeps on replaying over and over again like a damn movie played in an endless loop. The government wants the masses to comply to what they(the gov't.) want, when they're taking the money of the people for personal affairs. The masses want the government to help them, and when it actually does help, sooner or later the masses complain of corruption. When left to themselves, the masses complain of the government's lack of help in their affairs.
Sa totoo lang na hindi ganun magkakaroon ng unity dahil ang gobyerno natin nga corrupt pa eh kaya mahihirapan ang mga tao magkaroon ng tiwala sa mga taong may posisyon!

Before GMA tells the people to unite and help the poor, she must first change her attitude. If she really wants to help the poor, she must start with herself. I mean we already know that GMA steals money from the government and she cheated in the elections that is why she said sorry to the media. She is proven guilty and she accepts the fact that she had done the wrong thing but, did she change? We still don't know. Maybe she's just plastic about helping the people but in my opinion, if she really wanted to help the people she should start with herself. That's the best solution in helping our unfortunate brothers and sisters
mga politiko pareho lang lahat yan pro man o opposiyon adminstrayon. bangayan lang ang alam nila kaya wala sila nagagawa. Tama nga si presidente na pagkakaisa ang kailangan subalit hindi yan mangyayari kasi sa kanilang kasakiman nila sa kapangyarihan
