Soaring Rice Prices

Soaring Rice Prices

pls read the link before reading this blog.

to start with, this is really unbelievable. Rice is the main food staple we eat. Everyone eats rice. Its hard to imagine anyone not being able to eat rice. But, unfortunately, this nightmare is becoming a reality right before our very eyes. Rice prices have been staggeringly increasing DAILY! i mean how can that be? If you think about it, rice is like the cheapest food we can afford right? But even the simplest and most humble of Filipinos cannot afford to buy rice anymore. Staple rice is sold at P45-P51 pesos, the poorest of our nation cannot afford to buy at this price. Unbelievable isn't it? With the meager wages they earn, rice has become a "delicacy for the rich" in their eyes. Compare the rising prices of rice that increase DAILY, and the wages of Filipinos that do not increase proportionally with the food prices, in either short-term or long-term effects, they will starve and rice will be a far away dream for them. The wages they earn cannot keep up with the frantically changing prices of food that they need to survive. For every 10% increase in food prices, 2.3 million Filipinos fall into poverty. If this keeps going on, every single Filipino will live in poverty without being able to eat the simplest of foods...rice. Some have opted to substitute rice for other crops like corn grits. This may be a viable option, but it cannot give us what rice can give us. We cannot ignore that rice is important for us to live. The government has been producing Genetically Modified Rice and those enhanced ones with more vitamins and stuff, yet they are so highly priced that they do no good because the average Filipino cannot even afford to purchase them. Our nation is being affected not only by the dwindling food supplies, but poverty as well as corruption have been working hand in hand towards the inevitable downfall of our country. The Philippines is one of the biggest if not the biggest importer of rice in the whole world, yet how come we cannot feed our own people?

There is a restaurant in Robinson's Galleria (I forgot the name of said restaurant.) with the slogan "Save rice. Eat spaghetti.".

McDonald's has "Order half rice for the same price.".

My point is, we can help conserve rice by doing our own little thing. Even something as simple as eating spaghetti instead of rice for a day can help our country greatly.

I'm totaly agree with it, because everyday you will see many people fall in line just to buy a cheap rice. We can help them by conserving rice, unlike in states people there eat fast foods, but here Filipinos eat a lot of rice. You can say that they are very hardworking or because the rice is cheaper than other food.

As the "leader of opposition" of the group, I would agree that prices on rice have soared ever since the rice crisis. I would also agree that we should conserve rice in order to save money and food.

However, you didn't state the reason why rice prices increase day by day. I also didn't see the actual daily wages of an average citizens. And I wasn't sure what type of rice is P45-P51.

Also, I have to argue that oil price hikes and misuse of food crops also contribute to the crisis. Oil price hikes because oil is getting scarcer, and misuse of food crops because rice, corn, and others are being converted to so-called biodiesel and ethanol.

Rice prices are now soaring, since there is a crisis. This has greatly affected the Filipino people because rice is a lot cheaper than other foods and it's a good source for carbohydrates, which can give a person more strength and endurance in doing his daily activities. Now, we must do our best to conserve it. When we eat, we must make sure that there are no left-overs, because it's just a waste if we leave them to be thrown away.

the govt should do more to help the poor because if they wont help, they would be facing widespread dissatisfactions among the people.

It seems like everything's prices are going up. This affects the poor in the Philippines, most of all as poverty levels rise.

Everything these days are getting more expensive! Day after day, year after year, these things are getting more expensive. I am shocked that the rice's price had gone up since our country is good in agriculture. I think that the government should do something about this situation because if not, more and more people will suffer.

Rice is a staple food for people. We must not waste rice even thought it is cheap. Plenty of people starve to death and would want to eat rice. Base on my experience most girls waste rice because they want to diet, it is true that it will help them be thinner but it is bad to waste food in general, instead of accepting a whole rice, just ask for half or less.
