2010 ELECTIONS

SOURCE

--------

2010 elections will soon arrive and candidates are now making their way for the elections. We all know that tv commercials are a common way of exposing themselves to the people. They say that campaigning through ads and tv commercials are premature but we can say that this is the most powerful way to attract people.

Gordon and Escudero are one of the few who has commercials. They endorse that particular brand because they trust them. Other senators also claimed that their talent fees went to charities and did not benefit from it.

The 2010 elections should be fair and not rigged especially about vote buying and flying voters. Citizens cannot avoid this as every elections there were news about it. There are news that bloggers could participate in the upcoming election since there were bloggers already who participated in the 2007 elections and some got even a chance to join a campaign caravan.

We hope for the best leaders in our country to run in the 2010 elections who would unite with us and uplift our country. Those who really want to help the citizens and not to corrupt the government for their own good.

Repost of my comment from the original post.

Vote buying will be unavoidable. Especially these days when the prices of oil, electricity, gasoline, and even something as simple as rice are continuing to increase further. People will become desperate for any form of assistance to purchase these basic necessities.

Vote buying will give them much needed assistance, but think about the future. Vote buying is usually done by corrupt people looking to be politicians. If they succeed, our economy will deteriorate even further.

Some candidates are starting to advertise as early as now (middle of 2008), when in fact, the elections are in 2010. They realize that there will always be corrupt politicians looking to win votes via vote buying. They are starting early so that they can convince the minds of the people as early as now.

All we can hope for is that our future politicians will not be (as) corrupt as the ones we have now. For the future of our country, we need to hope for the best.

If the senators involved in endorsing products presently are going to run in the 2010 elections, I doubt that they will be better leaders we are hoping for our country.

This is what I have noticed in the past: When the election season is on-going, candidates go about saying they will do different kinds of activities to save the poor or to boost the Philippines' economic status. However, if there would be no election coming up or it has just ended, they become silent and nothing happens for the betterment of the country.

Now that another election is nearing, politicians once again rise from silence to prepare for popularity. Slowly, in the near future, I assume that these product-endorsing politicians would be saying the same things(like improving the country) again so that they would be thought of as candidates with good intentions for the Philippines.

If they are indeed serious politicians, they should be making projects for the better of our country as early as now, not endorsing products for their own benefit. Even if they say that they(e.g. Gordon) REALLY believe in these products, that they (e.g. Legarda) don't benefit from the money they earn from it, that they (e.g. Escudero) just want extra income, that they are not breaking any rules, it is still morally and ethically wrong. They should be focusing on projects that would lead to their ultimate goal---making Philippines a better place---even if the there's no election in the picture. That, for me, is a serious politician that would be perfect for the government. But as I see no one doing it, I have VERY little hope that we will be having politicians who really want to help the citizens.

I agree that it is really unfair that some candidates for the 2010 elections are starting to endorse themselves through tv advertisements and print ads.

For example, Bayani Fernando who is said to run for presidency for the upcoming 2010 elections started to put big posters in edsa with him in it and a very small mmda sign. I think this is unfair because he used our money for those posters. I believe that politicians who will be running for the 2010 elections should not be allowed to endorse themselves just yet.

It's really disappointing that our future leaders are like this. But I am still hopeful that some day our country would be in the hands of good leaders.

I DON'T think vote buying is unavoidable. People must be educated to the fact that their votes greatly affects the future of our country. However, if elections are concerned, the COMELEC should make sure that elections are systematized and "uncorrupted" to give us,including me, you and they, the trust that our votes WILL make a change. On the other hand, if the person who appoints "corrupted" COMELEC officials(Madam President) remains to be corrupt him/herself, then WE, the FUTURE, should do something to break the chain.

On political ads per se, in my humble opinion, ALL officials should NOT be permitted to appear on any advertising medium(excluding the president though)...from print, radio, television to banners and stickers...even if the advertiser is his/her government office. e.g. De Castro's Pag-Ibig TV Ad is not acceptable as well. But the president I believe should be allowed to tell US about her accomplishments and projects...true or not...she can't run for office in the next elections anyway...and besides, it is his/her duty to tell us.

Lastly, we CAN'T just keep on hoping for the best.....WE SHOULD BE THE BEST when WE ARE the LEADERS in the FUTURE. Therefore, be HONEST, be FAIR, be RESPONSIBLE and be "MAKABAYAN". We can't just pass on the responsibility to our future generations, we need to be responsible for THEIR future instead.

The 2010 elections are now fast approaching. Candidtes are beginnnig to file their candidacies and plans are starting to be made. Endorsements for candidates have not yet started, but people, like Bayani Fernando, have already started to endorse themselves like the different tarpaulins poste along Recto and EDSA. In addition, he didn't use his money to make the posters; our money was used to pay for them. In this way, more people would get to know who to vote during the elections. On the other hand, as seen in the past elections, no election has been made possible in the Philippines witout cheating. This is because the candidates want to win and therefore, steal whatever amount of money they can. I hope that 2010's elections would be peaceful and may the least-corrupt candidate win.

I agree that campaigning by means of advertising on TV still works to earn votes from the people because it is a way of letting the public know that he is a candidate and maybe they'll include that certain candidate in their choice but there are still some external factors, identity of the candidate matter too.In the past, Filipino voters prefer popularity over credibility that's why we had Erap as president, or Tito Sotto as senator..etc.But I noticed that voters are wiser now. Just look at the results of 2007, popular personalities like Manny Pacquiao, Cesar Montano, Richerd Gomez et al. didn't win the elections...hahahaha... I also hope that we'll elect a statesman that can really serve the citizens of our country and that can work to move our country towards progress.

I hope that we Filipinos will vote wisely this time around. We need a good leader who would really help us and not just steal all our money!

Regarding campaigning, we cannot avoid politicians who buy people's votes. As for the us, we cannot say no to the money given to us since we really need money.

Politicians target slum areas because they have the largest population count and they need money the most. Moreover, the slum areas aren't that educated on how to vote wisely.

I don't think there is a competent candidate for the 2010 elections. I mean, what is happening to our country? particularly to our government? actors are now politicians, some don't even have the adequate education about politics. it's like a policeman doing a fireman's job.

voters should know their rights to vote..they should know that their one vote is important in changing the future..

I hope that the 2010 elections end peacefully. The way candidates attract votes is a problem in the Philippines. Instead of letting the candidates speak their minds and debate before the elections, they just let them make posters and commercials in television. We have to make elections much more educated rather than just making it commercialized.
