Gasoline prices continue to be expensive since the supply is becoming scarce and we can not do anything about that. Aside from trying to work hard for their living, the jeepney associations should regulate the time of the jeepney drivers on the road. Increasing the price of the jeepney fare may not be the best solution. Since other jeepneys travel without passengers, they are wasting their gas even if the price is already high. To cure this, they have to divide themselves into three groups.
Group | Work hours |
1 | 6:00-12:00 |
2 | 12:00-18:00 |
3 | 18:00-00:00 |
Any jeepney | 00:00-6:00 |
There are times that the work hours will overlap with each other since there are more passengers during these times (rush hour). With these schedules, the jeepney drivers can increase their income because there will be less competitors, resulting to having a full jeepney while traveling and this can get their money’s worth of gas. If they think they want to earn more, they can travel during those extra hours. Aside from those, the schedule can also decrease the traffic in the Metro.

Your alternative plan will definitely decrease the traffic in Metro Manila, which is a good thing.
But, I think that this plan will not be beneficiary to the jeepney drivers.
The grouping seems like it is a good plan. And its pretty much sure that there will be less traffic around. But i dont think it is enough time for each jeepney to earn enough, despite of the less competitors.
With this grouping, traffic will certainly be lessened. I think they should try a scale test first, just to be sure if this proposal is worth a shot.
Traffic would be lessened but the rallies and "Tigil-pasada" of the jeepney drivers would be increased. These drivers would think that they should be the one to choose their operating hours because they own the jeep, and no one owns the roads, so that means that anyone can drive and travel anytime they want to. Well, these jeepney drivers also have families to support, and if their working hours would be lessened and the oil prices would be increased, would you think that they still have enough money to support their families?
Most jeepneys travel with just one or two passengers, if not empty. The waste their gas by traveling the route without having the passengers to pay for the consumed gas. This can even contribute to their loss in profit.
That may be an effective plan. It will surely decrease traffic because there are too many Jeepney's around.
In my opinion, I think this alternative plan is good, but just like what kim said, it might not be much of a benefit for jeepney drivers. Sure there will be less traffic and pollution in Metro Manila, there will also be less competitors, but I think not all jeepney drivers will agree with this plan. If you’ve been to Cubao or Commonwealth, there are barkers there whose job is to call passengers and make sure that the jeepneys or fx are full. Also, there are jeepney and fx terminals where public transportations like such wait for passengers before they leave, so through these methods or ways, they’re not really wasting gas and losing their income. But of course, not all PUJs line up in terminals, they have their own “strategic way” of having passengers so as not to waste their gas and lose their income. Kanya-kanya lang yan.. haha!!
Maybe in some areas they do something so that the public transportations will be full when they travel. But as to what I have seen in our area, they do not have a "strategic plan"
its a good plan, less traffic. The drivers can get a proper income out of it. but wouldnt it be also decreasing, since they all have timings divided, they cant stay on the road usually ?. and what if a group actually has jeepneys which always get full, and there would be alot more people waiting outside, wanting a spacious jeepney?. the way i see it, it will only help on lessening the traffic.
It seems like a good idea if it could be strictly implemented.
